Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) has duties and responsibilities related to patient care in the ambulatory clinic environment and the Mobile Medical Unit. The individual displays responsible behaviors, communicates effectively to others and functions as a member of the healthcare team. The MA functions under the direct supervision and authority of the provider when performing clinical tasks during patient care. The MA reports to the nursing supervisor/manager, who is responsible for administrative supervision, staff development, and orientation of the MA to the area’s policies and procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Delivers quality patient care.
· Maintains accurate, complete, and timely documentation.
· Assists with inventory and medication management.
· Maintains a safe and compliant clinic environment.
· Maintains examination rooms and areas between patient appointments as needed.
· Manages patient flow.
· Promotes teamwork, good interpersonal relations, and communication.
Qualifications
Education
· The minimum education level required for the position is High School Diploma or GED, and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, community college, and /or vocational school.
Experience
· A minimum of 2 years in the clinic setting required.
Other
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
· Louisiana Driver’s License required.
· Must possess skills in de-escalation, using trauma informed and person-centered communication techniques, commitment to delivering stigma-free services, and the ability to build trusting relationships.
· This position will work in a mobile medical unit, in the field, outdoors, with variable environmental conditions and provide healthcare services.
· Must be flexible, dependable, and have the ability to work on a non-traditional schedule, as this position requires working evenings.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Extended periods of sitting required.
· Work is primarily office or mobile medical unit based.
· May need to lift up to 25 pounds in equipment and supplies.
· Some travel required, including but not limited to travel between clinical locations and mobile medical unit routes as needed and assigned
