Start Your Clinical Career With Real Hands-On Experience

Are you taking a gap year before medical school, PA school, nursing school, or another healthcare program? This is an opportunity to gain meaningful clinical exposure, work directly with physicians, and learn how a high-functioning medical practice operates from the inside.

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Medical Assistant / EMT / Scribe who wants more than a typical entry-level role. In this position, you will work side-by-side with providers, participate in patient care, and develop skills that will be highly valuable for future healthcare training programs.

This role is ideal for individuals who are:

  • Pre-med, pre-PA, pre-nursing, or pursuing another healthcare field
  • Taking a structured gap year to gain clinical experience
  • Interested in learning both clinical care and healthcare operations
  • Motivated, reliable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced medical environment

What You Will Gain

  • Direct exposure to physician decision-making and patient care
  • Hands-on clinical experience in a real medical practice
  • Medical documentation and scribing experience
  • Understanding of referrals, prior authorizations, and care coordination
  • Experience that strengthens applications to medical and professional schools
  • Mentorship and professional development within a clinical environment

The Medical Assistant / EMT / Scribe provides both clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the physician’s office and to enhance patient care. This role involves direct patient interaction, assisting providers during examinations, and maintaining accurate medical records while following healthcare best practices and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and record patient medical histories, vital signs, and relevant health information at each visit
  • Prepare for patient visits by gathering MRI results and other referral or visit-related records
  • Educate patients on treatment procedures and assist in preparing them for examinations
  • Assist physicians during medical examinations and procedures
  • Ensure exam rooms are cleaned, organized, and stocked with appropriate medical supplies
  • Perform medication reconciliation at each visit and document current prescriptions and renewal needs
  • Research, document, and follow up on clinical tasks to ensure timely resolution
  • Accurately document patient visits including history, physical exams, procedures, and treatments
  • Coordinate and prepare referral letters as directed by the physician
  • Ensure lab results, clinical data, and test interpretations are properly documented in the medical record
  • Monitor and manage inbound patient messages and clinical tasks, ensuring patients receive timely communication
  • Facilitate patient check-out and provide follow-up instructions
  • Monitor and respond to daily emails and clinical communications
  • Perform clerical duties including dictation, faxing, and phone communications
  • Coordinate and document cardiac and medical clearances for ASC procedures
  • Support scheduling efficiency to help maintain clinic workflow
  • Assist with MACRA/MIPS documentation and compliance workflows
  • Receive, document, and complete prior authorizations when required
  • Follow infection control, hand hygiene, and standard precautions
  • Adhere to clinic policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Report facility or operational concerns to management
  • Assist with workflow adjustments to maintain clinic efficiency
  • Perform other duties as needed to support clinic operations

Qualifications

Preferred candidates may have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress or completed (especially in a health-related field)
  • Strong interest in pursuing a healthcare career
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Professionalism and ability to work with patients compassionately

Experience is helpful, but we value motivation, reliability, and a strong interest in healthcare.

What We Look For

Successful candidates tend to be:

  • Organized and proactive
  • Curious and eager to learn
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Strong communicators
  • Interested in long-term healthcare careers

Why This Role Stands Out

Many entry-level roles limit your exposure. In this position, you will be fully integrated into patient care and clinical workflow, gaining a deeper understanding of how medicine is practiced day-to-day.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to make their gap year truly count.
