Job Description

Medical Assistant, OPA Lake Otis - Anchorage, Full-time

Schedule: Monday - Friday, shifts vary between 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM and 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Non-Certified - $20.00–$30.50 per hour (DOE)

Certified - $21.00–$31.50 per hour (DOE)

You will receive a $500.00 SIGNING BONUS after 90 days of full-time employment

Your Role at OPA:

As a Medical Assistant on the CARE TEAM at OPA you will contribute to outstanding patient experience by working with other providers and staff to ensure patients are receiving appropriate care. You will also perform administrative tasks, environmental tasks, and organizational tasks to ensure the clinic is operating effectively.

What You’ll Do:

  • Adhere to the scope of practice of a MA
  • Room patients, take vital signs, and document patient visits in electronic health record system
  • Ensure exam rooms are appropriately stocked, cleaned, and maintained for patient visits
  • Comply with HIPAA, confidentiality, and state laws
  • Answer patient calls and follow up with patients
  • Assist with patient scheduling as needed
  • Effectively communicate with patients, providers, and staff
  • Maintain a professional presence
  • Report concerns to appropriate staff members
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

  • You are able to understand medical charts, diagnosis, and coding for billing purposes
  • You demonstrate the ability to maintain a calm demeanor when under pressure
  • You have skill in operating a computer using a variety of software applications and an electronic health records system
  • You are able to prioritize multiple tasks and work with a variety of patient care teams

Required qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred qualifications:

  • One year of clinical experience working as a medical assistant OR completion of externship in a medical office
  • Certified medical assistant through the AAMA OR registered medical assistant through the AMT OR
  • Licensed practical nurse certification PLUS two years of clinical experience

Orthopedic Physicians Alaska (OPA) is a group of orthopedic surgeons and other providers committed to delivering world-class medical care in an environment that is accessible, cost-efficient, and friendly for both patients and their referring providers.

The OPA team includes board-certified orthopedic surgeons, each working in concert with a certified orthopedic surgical physician assistant and other staff to give patients an individualized care team. OPA also features three board certified, fellowship trained rheumatologists. In addition, a large team of full-time certified athletic trainers serves numerous local youth athletic programs and events at no charge to prevent sports injuries and care for injured athletes.

Together, the OPA team offers comprehensive musculoskeletal services, both non-surgical and surgical, that help injured Alaskans get back to doing what they love.
