Job Description

The Providence Center Medical Assistant Bilingual performs administrative and clinical support duties to assist physicians, nurses and other clinical staff in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answer incoming calls for physicians and other clinical staff as required and ensure messages contain correct spelling of names, phone numbers and brief message regarding the call.

  • Answer questions and investigate if answer is not known until resolution.

  • Type correspondence as needed. Ensure typed documents are in proper format, accurate and completed within 24 hours of receipt of request.

  • Make copies and/or fax documents pertinent to client health care and in accordance with HIPPA guidelines and TPC policies.

  • Call insurance companies for authorizations needed as required for medications.

  • Obtain patient information as directed by physician/program policy from other agencies.

  • Obtain patient’s laboratory results and recent medication sheet from their PCP.

  • Obtain vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, weight, pulse, respiration).

  • Sort and distribute diagnostic test results.

  • Fill out basic information on TDI forms, forward to physician for signature.

  • Assist physicians and nurses with medication groups.

  • Review expired medications in the Med Room and assist in drug destruction per agency policy. Provide coverage in Med Room when needed.

  • Process medication requests and ensure that all medication requests for the day are completed by end of shift.

  • Verify that medications received from pharmacy match the written orders in EPIC.

  • Call pharmacy to refill existing medication per physician’s order.

  • Assist with urine screens as required.

  • Monitor emails and respond in a timely manner.

  • Provide coverage in areas where there is a need.

  • Maintain cooperative, courteous and respectful relationships with coworkers and supervisory staff, local agencies, clients and the public.

  • Maintain patient confidentiality.

  • Attend and participate in scheduled team meetings if needed.

  • Accept and benefit from constructive criticism.

  • Provide excellent customer service.

  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Manual dexterity and mobility required. While performing the major responsibilities of this position, the incumbent must be able to regularly sit, stand or walk, and occasionally reach for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to lift, push, move and/or carry supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds, and occasionally be able to bend, stoop, crouch or kneel.

Medical Practice

  • Must be sensitive to the client population served by The Providence Center.

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

  • Ability to write simple correspondence.

  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to clients and employees.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Bilingual required. For positions designated as bilingual (Bil), proficiency in the required language is mandatory, and the language assessment must be passed no later than 30 days of starting the role.
