The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting provider care delivery by preparing patients for visits, collecting vital information, performing clinical tasks, and ensuring seamless clinic operations. This role ensures timely patient flow and contributes to a high-quality patient experience in line with Valle del Sol’s mission of integrated healthcare.
- Prepare for patient appointments by reviewing and updating medical records.
- Obtain and record vital signs and chief complaints following intake protocol.
- Assist with exams, procedures, specimen collection, and immunizations.
- Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the care team.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and safety standards.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and exam rooms as required.
- Perform outreach, discharge education, and coordination of care.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance measures (e.g., UDS reporting).
- Demonstrate a commitment to conducting business honestly, ethically, and consistently with Valle del Sol’s values, emotional quotients, policies, and procedures.
- Promote and support a culture of employee engagement and total safety.
- Ensure duties are performed in compliance with all company and regulatory obligations; follow procedures and processes as directed by leadership.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Graduation from an approved medical assistant training program or valid certification (e.g., CCMA, RMA, CMA).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to be credentialed and privileged for the role.
- Must maintain current BLS certification.
- Must meet immunization and TB screening requirements.
- Must possess or obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass pre- and continued employment screenings successfully.
This position follows a structured career path with three levels:
**Level I**: Entry-level to 2 years of experience
**Level II**: 2–5 years of experience
**Level III**: 5+ years of experience
Progression is based on demonstrated competencies aligned with performance standards. Medical Assistants who earn certification (e.g., CCMA, RMA, CMA) are eligible for an hourly pay bump. This pathway supports professional development and long-term growth within Valle del Sol.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Effective written and verbal communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced setting.
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive services and support diverse populations.
- Strong proficiency in EHR systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Maintain compliance with relevant training, licensure, and/or certifications for this role.
- Work at a Valle del Sol office, clinic, or other location as directed.
- Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work performed in clinical environments and office settings.
- Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is required.
- Must be able to travel to various Valle del Sol locations as needed.
- Must be able to attend meetings at the various Valle del Sol locations or other designated locations as needed.
- Must be able to operate computer equipment, common software packages, and other office machinery.
- Must be able to operate medical, lab, and other clinical equipment.
