Job Description

Job Location: 2400 Moorpark Avenue, Suite 300 - San Jose, CA 95128
Salary Range: $26.00 - $28.75 Hourly

The Medical Assistant (MA) works directly with Providers and other members of the primary or specialty care team to provide high-quality care and customer service to patients, clients, and community members. The MA will work in one or both outpatient Primary Care clinic locations in San Jose as needed. Also performs a variety of direct clinical and administrative patient-related duties to fulfill a variety of patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow within the department.

Duties and responsibilities
- May perform both front office and back-office duties including registration, insurance verification, check-in and check-out.
- Take vital signs, intake patients, and prepare them for exams.
- Perform patient care tasks within medical assistant training, including patient history, ECG, specimen collection, venipuncture, injections, vital signs, charting, supply management, and sterile techniques.
- Provide patient education and exam instructions.
- Assist with maintaining medical records, immunization, and health registries.
- Prep charts before appointments.
- Support by answering calls, assisting staff, scheduling, and confirming appointments.
- Prepare forms for provider review.
- Process medication refills as ordered by the provider.
- Resolve minor patient issues and communicate patient concerns to supervisor or Provider as necessary.
- Attend meetings and training sessions.
- Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.

QualificationsEducation &

Experience:
- Medical Assistant National Certification required. (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA, or CCBMA certification)
- 2 or more years’ of directly related experience
- Current Health Certificate (Proof of MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunization status or proof of titer status; annual T.B. testing).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities described above.
- General knowledge of clinical terminology and normal ranges for vital signs.
- Proficiency in medical practice management systems, EPIC EHR experience preferred.
- Basic Microsoft Office proficiency
- Ability to maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Language Skills: verbal and written fluency in English required. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Mandarin, or Vietnamese, preferred but not required.
Competencies:
- Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural professional and experiential backgrounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Working conditions
Work is often conducted in an office environment inside a standard clinic setting. Basic safety precautions and use of protective clothing or gear is required. Occasional evening and weekend work is required.

The job requires occasional sedentary physical effort of lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs. The mental demands of the job include continuous comprehension, organizing and reading and writing; frequently engage in decision making, and interpreting and analyzing data; and occasionally requires resilience.
