The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers.

The Medical Assistant (MA) will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.
Duties include but not limited to the following: check in patients, obtaining vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature) and medication reconciliation, patient medical history information, expediting patient flow, rooming patients, stocking clinic with supplies, navigating electronic health record system (EPIC), scheduling and following-up with appointments and assisting with medication fill and refill requests, checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures and consultations. May also perform other procedures such as EKG, phlebotomy, lab tests and injections (once competency has been assessed).
The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information, plus.
Basic Life Support and other advanced training as appropriate to be received within 90 days, plus one of the following:
Prior working experience in a medical office/clinic performing clinical MA duties.
Or completed any MA education program, but has not received certification as of yet.
Upon hire these disciplines will be assessed for clinical competency and be required to successfully complete an MA orientation | externship as well as complete any additional training as required by the Provider.
Preferred Requirements for Certified Medical Assistant:
Current MA Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, AAMP.
Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current Licensure without restrictions.
Basic computer skills, specifically with navigating within databases containing highly confidential information.
