Under supervision of the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor and Administrative Manager and guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services Organization, and in collaboration with clinical staff, the Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of care to patients in UCSF Endocrine Practice.
General responsibilities include managing patient flow in the practice, obtaining vital signs, reviewing health maintenance status, maintaining and stocking exam rooms, and assisting in emergencies. The Hospital Assistant III also supports general administrative functions at reception including scheduling, referral management and other duties as required and demonstrates excellent customer service skills with patients and staff. The Hospital Assistant must be able to competently work in an advanced Electronic Health Record environment. The Hospital Assistant is required to comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

Monitors Patient flow in and out of the clinic. Supports medication reconciliation process. Performs routine clinical functions, including but not limited to vital signs, height, weight, and assessment of chief complaints. Handles phone calls and reviews messages, documenting medication requests and prepares appropriate documentation for clinicians. Assists patients in preparation for exam or procedures. Reports any problems or concerns with individual patients to the Practice Manager or attending provider. Performs clinical activities in an accurate timely manner. Effectively works in an advanced Electronic Health Record environment.
