SUMMARY

Provides assistance and support to the technologist and to the department the Hospital Assistant II is assigned. As an integral part of the imaging team, assist and support the department assigned, to include the following:

• Prepare patient for exam. Change patient.
• Assist technologist in room turnover and cleaning of equipment
• Provide transportation for patients to and from the department of radiology
• Assist patient onto to the imaging table when necessary
• Auditing and distribution of supplies and linen.
• Transport of equipment or lab specimens when required.
• Heightening awareness and practice of department safety policies including MR and radiation safety.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. AREAS OF EMPHASIS 70%
2. When assisting a patient identifies self and identifies patients by the armband, or if an outpatient, ensures correct identification is made.
3. Assists the technologists with patients. Transporting, running errands, getting the patient dressed, or returning the patient to the dressing room or room.
4. Stocks all rooms for supplies, patient gowns, etc.
5. Is responsible for ordering supplies for the areas assigned.
6. Transports patients safely to the radiology department by wheelchair or gurney.
7. Ensures that all IV’s or other patient equipment is safely transported if necessary.
8. Assists the patient to the imaging table.
9. Upon completion of the procedure in the Radiology Department, returns patient to their hospital bed.
10. Practices good body mechanics.
11. Utilizes slow periods by assisting co-workers in the film library or other departments.
12. ADHERES TO POLICIES AND PROCEDURES 10%
13. Utilizes proper body mechanics.
14. Adheres to all radiation and magnet safety policies and procedures.
15. Follows established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness.
16. Adheres to all hospital and department polices and procedures. Remains current on patient safety to include electrical, mechanical, fire, safety and disaster procedures.
17. Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians and other departments.
18. Assures that work environment is clean and in compliance with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.
19. Is a role model by maintaining a professional, neat appearance and adhering to the department dress code policy. Displays hospital identification badge.
20. INFORMATION MANAGEMENT 5%
21. Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information Systems and APeX.
22. Insures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested.
23. Arrives and departs patients in the Radiology Information System in the absence of the dispatcher. (Weekends and after-hours)
24. LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION 3%
25. Provides leadership in the absence of the supervisor.
26. Demonstrates the ability to work with minimal supervision.
27. DEVELOPMENT 4%
28. Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities.
29. Participates in cross training activities when necessary.
30. Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
31. Attends meetings or seminars to remain current.
32. Complies with the department expectations and standards.
33. PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT 4%
34. Participate in related performance improvement projects for the department and hospital.
35. Attends required hospital training and inservices.

G. BUDGETARY 4%

1. Demonstrates effective use of time.
2. Is conscientious regarding the use of supplies.
3. Adheres to the productivity monitors for the department.
4. Identifies opportunities for cost containment.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists other departments when necessary.
2. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the job, training and licensure.

REQUIRED

• Requires High School Diploma
• Read and write the English Language
• Flexibility in scheduling, ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays if necessary.

PREFERRED

• Prefer previous experience in a hospital acute care setting or imaging center.
• BLS – CPR certified
