The Medical Affairs Director – Hematology is responsible for medical and scientific leadership of the J&J Hematology Therapeutic Area strategy, spanning hematological malignancies including multiple myeloma, lymphoid, and myeloid malignancies, across in-line and pipeline assets. The role provides evidence-based scientific expertise to internal and external stakeholders and is accountable for the Integrated Evidence Generation Process (IEGP) in close collaboration with the Therapeutic Area team and global partners.

The Medical Affairs Director – Hematology provides scientific leadership for the assigned assets to the field medical organization and chairs the Medical Integrated Team. This role has three direct reports, including the Medical Communications Manager, Hematology; the National Medical Education Manager, Hematology; and the Associate Director, Cell Therapy (ciltacel) and Myeloid Pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the Hematology medical strategy aligned with JJIM stakeholders and external hematology experts.
  • Co-lead the cross-functional Patient Value Team and contribute to Hematology business planning and budgeting for assigned assets.
  • Lead launch readiness and pre-launch medical activities for pipeline hematology assets.
  • Represent Canada on global medical affairs teams and ensure Canadian needs are reflected in global strategies.
  • Identify evidence gaps across hematologic malignancies and develop data generation plans.
  • Oversee company-sponsored Phase 4 and local clinical research and champion investigator-initiated studies.
  • Lead publication strategy development and execution for Hematology.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the Medical Communications Manager and National Medical Education Manager.
  • Provide strategic leadership and indirect coaching to the field medical team.
  • Maintain up-to-date scientific expertise through engagement with key scientific forums.

Requirements

  • MD or PhD preferred; PharmD or MSc considered with relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in medical or scientific roles within pharma or biotech.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience.
  • Deep experience in hematological malignancies required.
  • Strong knowledge of GCP, IMC Code, compliance, and Canadian regulatory requirements.
  • Proven strategic thinking, execution excellence, and communication skills.

Additional Information

  • Travel estimated at approximately 20%. This position follows a hybrid work model based at the Toronto office
