Overview
The YMCA of Greenville is a dynamic and rapidly growing association that seeks to strengthen the community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Media Specialist supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. This role produces digital content and visual assets that strengthen communication across the branch and its departments. The specialist focuses on editing provided photos and videos, developing social media content, creating graphic design assets, and assisting with member and prospect messaging through email and Daxko Engage.
This is a creative production role, with responsibilities for photography/videography capture.

Responsibilities
Digital Media & Content Creation
- Edit provided photos and videos into polished content for social media, email, and digital screens.
- Create engaging graphics, layouts, and branded templates using Canva and other approved tools.
- Prepare short-form videos and reels based on supplied footage.
- Maintain organized digital files and consistent visual quality.
- Support branch-level social media content, including posts, stories, graphics, and basic photography or videography.
- Ensure all materials align with YMCA of Greenville and Y-USA brand guidelines.
- Utilize Canva, Daxko Engage, and other YMCA-approved software platforms to develop and distribute content.
- Assist with updating bulletin boards, signage, and in-branch digital displays.
Graphic Design & Visual Communication
- Design digital and print materials such as promotional flyers, event graphics, infographics, and departmental collateral.
- Ensure all creative assets align with YMCA of Greenville and Y-USA brand guidelines.
- Update digital signage and branch displays using approved templates.
Social Media Content Production
- Develop content (graphics, captions, edited video clips) for use on branch social platforms.
- Package visual assets for scheduling by Marketing staff or branch leadership.
- Stay current with visual trends to keep YMCA content fresh and relevant.
Email & Engage Support
- Assist in crafting and formatting messaging for current and prospective members using Daxko Engage.
- Support email newsletters, announcements, and automated campaigns.
- Ensure written communication aligns with YMCA tone and communication standards.
Collaboration & Department Support
- Coordinate with all departments to develop accurate, timely content tailored to program needs.
- Join virtual check-ins with branch leadership and association Marketing & Communications.
- Participate in planning or brainstorming sessions related to digital storytelling.
Compliance & YMCA Standards
- Follow YMCA policies regarding youth protection and media permissions.
- Complete required training (New Staff Orientation, Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens, CPR/First Aid) within 30 days.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional communication always.
Other expectations
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers.
- Attend/complete required abuse risk management training
- Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers.
- Follow mandated reporting requirements.
- Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities.
- Maintenance Employees-ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker-rooms and bathrooms), etc.
- Front Desk Personnel- ensure consumers are properly signed in and out, ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, graphic design, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of relevant experience, certifications, and demonstrated skills may be considered in place of a formal degree.
- At least two (2) years of customer service/public relations experience.
- Experience in digital content editing, graphic design, or social media production.
- Proficiency in Canva and basic video-editing software (e.g., CapCut, Adobe Express, iMovie, or similar).
- Strong understanding of digital communication, visual branding, and creative storytelling.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines while working independently.
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Daxko Engage (preferred) or willingness to learn.
- Completion of all required YMCA training within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience creating social media content for organizations or brands.
- Basic understanding of email marketing and digital communication platforms.
- Must complete New Staff Orientation, Blood Bourne Pathogen, Child Abuse Prevention, and CPR/First Aid training within 30 days of employment.
