We are seeking a Media and Communications Strategy Lead, you'll play a pivotal role in enhancing and protecting AusNet's reputation while supporting the delivery of the transformative Western Renewables Link project. You'll lead strategic media engagement, drive proactive communications campaigns, manage complex issues and crisis responses, and help build the social licence needed to deliver critical energy infrastructure.

Working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders, you'll shape communication strategies that strengthen community trust, secure positive media outcomes and support one of Victoria's most significant renewable energy projects. You'll also be part of leading and developing a high-performing communications team, influencing how AusNet connects with communities, customers and the broader public.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Media relations: Develop and maintain relationships with media outlets, manage media enquiries, and proactively seek opportunities to promote the project.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies Create and execute comprehensive communication strategies that underpin all media and communications activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and company objectives.
  • Strategic direction contribution Contribute to the strategic direction of the communications and media team, supporting cohesive and effective media engagement and communication efforts.
  • Team leadership and development Lead and coach up to 4 direct reports and play a key role in the development of culture and direction of the communications and media team, fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and alignment with AusNet’s leadership behaviours and values.
  • Stakeholder engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, delivering effective communication and collaboration to support project success and build social licence.
  • Issues management Develop and implement issues communication plans to effectively manage media coverage and protect the company's reputation.
  • Innovation and continuous improvement Drive innovation in media and communication strategies, continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes and outcomes, ensuring AusNet remains at the forefront of industry best practices.

You don’t need to check every box, however we’re looking for a good combination of:

  • Minimum of 10 years in media and communication roles, preferably in infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, media, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong media relations and issues management experience, content creation and campaign management abilities.
  • Excellent time management, people management, influencing, team leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working in complex and political environments.
  • Experience on major infrastructure and/or energy projects.
