Job Description

The Mechatronics Engineer — Robotics Integration & Delivery will be a key member of the Advanced Robotics & Data Orchestration Team, integrating and delivering the mechanical, electrical, and control systems that turn instruments and robots into reliable, reusable, push-button workflows for Alexion’s Product Development & Clinical Supply organization. You will work across engineering, orchestration, data, laboratory, and delivery teams to assemble, wire, bring up, troubleshoot, validate, and transition robotic systems into safe and usable operations.

This is what you will do:

  • Integrate robotic and lab-automation hardware, including robot arms, fixtures, conveyors, end-of-arm tooling, enclosures, sensors, control panels, and safety devices.
  • Build and troubleshoot electrical and control-system interfaces, including PLC hardware, I/O, relays, sensors, actuators, networked devices, and associated wiring and schematics.
  • Perform system bring-up, including power and signal checks, I/O verification, sensor configuration, calibration, controlled first motion, dry-run testing, and readiness assessments.
  • Collaborate with Lab Orchestration, Data Engineering, Delivery, scientists, and operators to transition integrated systems into reliable workflows.
  • Support verification of instrument connectivity, including digital and analog I/O, serial/Ethernet interfaces, barcode or RFID devices, vision systems, and material-handling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot live integration issues, drive root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software boundaries.
  • Create and maintain practical delivery documentation, including drawings, wiring documentation, bills of material, commissioning checklists, test results, issue logs, operating procedures, and handoff materials.
  • Support operator enablement and day-two adoption, including demonstrations, checklists, training, workflow feedback, and early-life support after deployment.

You will be responsible for:

  • Integrated robotic systems that meet safety, reliability, usability, and delivery-readiness expectations.
  • Accurate electrical and mechanical documentation, including wiring information, schematics, bills of material, test records, and configuration details.
  • Reliable system bring-up and handoff, with clear ownership of open issues, acceptance criteria, and operational readiness.
  • Effective collaboration across engineering and delivery functions during build, commissioning, cutover, and early-life support.
  • Continuous improvement of system reliability, operator experience, error reduction, and time to deploy.

You will need to have:

  • Education/experience: MS + 0 years, or BS + 4 years in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)—including 2+ years integrating lab or industrial automation hardware (robots, conveyors, fixtures, sensors, controllers, and input/output).
  • Experience with hands-on robotic or automation integration, including mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, control panels or PLC hardware, I/O verification, sensor and actuator integration, and system bring-up.
  • Ability to interpret and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, bills of material, and commissioning or test documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues across mechanical, electrical, controls, and software interfaces and communicate technical status clearly to engineering, delivery, and operations stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-based control systems, industrial I/O, relays, sensors, actuators, and control-system troubleshooting.
  • Collaborative mindset with orchestration/software, data engineers, and scientists/operators; clear, practical documentation.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Exposure to regulated lab practices and validation documentation or data-integrity expectations
  • Familiarity with barcode or RFID, basic vision, and material handling equipment.
  • Awareness of observability concepts (telemetry, alarms) and reliability basics.

*The duties of this role may require periodic work in a laboratory or manufacturing environment. As is typical of such roles, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: lift/carry 15/30 pounds unassisted/assisted; work comfortably in a controlled environment with and around hazardous materials; gown/degown PPE; use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life‑changing medicines. In‑person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace, and challenge perceptions. That is why we work, on average, a minimum of four days per week from the office. We balance this expectation while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $90K to $135K. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
