The Role

Weave builds and deploys some of the first bimanual robots operating in customer homes. Between the actuators, motor controllers, power electronics, and sensors sits everything that holds them together: the base that drives the robot, the thermal design that keeps it alive, the structure that keeps it light and safe, and every point where electrons meet metal. That's this role.

You’ll work both sides of the electrical/mechanical line without waiting for someone from the other one. The work changes week to week: structure one week, PCB design the next, then an airflow problem, then a charging dock contact that has to work on the ten-thousandth time docking. If you’d rather work on whole systems than a deep slice, this is the job.

Responsibilities

  • Design electromechanical assemblies: the robot’s base, arms, structures, mounts, and enclosures, with the electronics packaging, grounding, and serviceability thought through from the start.
  • Own the harnesses: wire gauging, connector selection, routing through moving joints, strain relief, and drawings clean enough that the harness shop builds it right the first time.
  • Own thermal at the robot level: heat paths, heatsinks, fans and airflow, traded against acoustics and ingress.
  • Design the robot’s periphery: charging dock and contacts, e-stop chain, lights, speakers, buttons.
  • Build test infrastructure: rigs, fixtures, and instrumented setups that let design teams and the production line prove things instead of assuming them.
  • Integrate and debug the whole robot: when a fault could be the harness, the board, or the bracket, you're the one who finds out which.
  • Support builds and production: prototype assembly, EVT/DVT builds, DFM/DFA with the manufacturing team, and design changes that land on the line.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience designing electromechanical systems that shipped: robots, consumer hardware, vehicles, appliances, or similar.
  • Mechanical fundamentals: CAD (Solidworks), tolerance stacks, GD&T, material selection, structural basics, DFM across machining, molding, and sheet metal.
  • Electrical fundamentals: you can read and design schematics, design harnesses and interconnects, understand grounding and shielding, and hold your own in a PCB layout review (KiCAD/Altium).
  • Fast iteration: you’d rather 3D print a bracket and cut a board tonight than wait a week to find out.
  • Bench competence: from oscilloscope and multimeter to calipers and presses - you build and instrument your own test setups.
  • Cross-domain debugging: you follow a fault across the electrical/mechanical boundary until you find it, not until it leaves your domain.
  • Range: you’re comfortable being the person who picks up whatever the robot needs next.

Nice to have

  • Harness design for high-flex or moving applications: cable carriers, slip rings, flex PCBs through joints.
  • Thermal analysis or airflow design beyond rules of thumb.
  • EVT/DVT/PVT on a consumer product.
  • Basic firmware or scripting (Python, C) for test automation.
  • EMC troubleshooting at the system level.
  • Safety certification for robotics or industrial applications.
