UGL Capital works and Manufacturinghave an opportunity for a qualified and suitably experienced Mechanical Workshop Supervisor for our Workshop located at Bennetts Green.

This is a permanent role that will see you working at our Bennetts Green facility.

This position is Monday-Friday 38hours per week.

This position is a residential role with no living away from home provisions or facility for non-local employees.Local applicants from the Newcastle region are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the role

Mechanical Workshop Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of Leading Hands, labour and equipment. This position is to develop, direct activities within the Workshop, ensuring completion of both production and quality objectives in a safe, cost effective and timely manner. At times this is a hands-on role, and you will be expected to be able to operate a borer, milling machine, lathes etc. as a qualified machinist would. There is also pump overhauls, valve maintenance and testing, and general fitting work.

  • Be familiar with safety, quality and construction or maintenance procedures and requirements.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance of the Safety, Health and Environment Plan.

  • Plan and coordinate resources and equipment for the work to conduct the work in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Brief and coordinate Leading Hands and labour.

  • Train and mentor apprentices

  • Ensure all personnel receive a UGL induction before commencing in the workshop.

  • Refer any industrial relations problems to the Manager

  • Ensure that the standard of workmanship is compliant with the specifications and that specified inspections and tests are conducted and records maintained to substantiate conformance.

  • Ensure correct material, machinery, equipment and personnel are available and suitable for completion of work.

  • Assess risks and hazards involved in tasks and methods to manage the hazards in order to prevent incidents, injury and damage.

  • Provide training, guidance and counselling to subordinates when necessary.

  • Maintain daily timesheets for labour and equipment.

Required qualifications and education requirements

  • Engineering Trade Qualifications

  • Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel

  • Driver’s Licence

  • Leadership ability
