Prepare for In-Demand Careers
This training provides a strong foundation for careers such as:
- HVAC Technician
- Plumber
- Industrial Mechanic
- Facilities Maintenance Technician
This is not just classroom training. You will learn by doing. Participants will gain hands-on experience using tools, reading construction drawings, working with pipe and ductwork, learning safety practices, and preparing for the expectations of real jobsite. You will gain the skills needed to pursue a careers, including positions that offer registered apprenticeship opportunities.
Earn Industry-Recognized Credentials
Participants will have the opportunity to earn valuable credentials, including:
- SHA 30 Construction Certification
- EPA 608 Certification
- CPR/First Aid Certification
In addition to earning credentials, participants will receive a toolkit to use during training and keep after successful completion.

- T/Th - 8:30am to 2:30pm (in-person)
- W - 8:30am to 12pm (virtual)
Eligibility
To qualify, you must:
✅ Be an Anne Arundel County resident
✅ Be 18 years or older
✅ Have a high school diploma or equivalent
✅ Be authorized to work in the U.S.
✅ Be registered with Selective Service (if male, born on or after 1/1/1960)
✅ Have a high school diploma or GED
✅ Complete AAWDC's Intake process
✅ Attend a virtual suitability interview and an in-person orientation (includes practical math review).
Requirements
Suitability Requirements include:
✅ Motivation and Commitment
Demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the skilled trades, including HVAC, plumbing, mechanical trades, facilities maintenance, or industrial maintenance.
Willingness to commit to the full training schedule, participate in hands-on learning, complete required coursework, and prepare for industry-recognized credentials.
✅ Availability & Schedule Readiness
Ability to attend all required classes, labs, skills demonstrations, credential preparation sessions, and program activities.
Willingness to participate in training that may include daytime, evening, or occasional weekend activities, depending on the program schedule.
✅ Hands-On Learning Readiness
Comfort with learning in both classroom and lab settings.
Willingness to use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, pipe materials, ductwork, fittings, and other trade-related materials under instructor supervision.
Ability to follow instructions, practice new skills, and improve through feedback.
✅ Transportation & Logistics Awareness
Reliable transportation to attend training, labs, information sessions, credential exams, and any required program activities.
Understanding that careers in the mechanical trades may require travel to jobsites, early start times, changing work locations, and outdoor or physically active work environments.
✅ Physical & Safety Readiness
Ability to safely participate in hands-on trade activities, including standing for extended periods, lifting materials, using tools, working with pipes and ductwork, and following safety procedures.
Willingness to use personal protective equipment, follow OSHA safety practices, and maintain a safe learning and work environment.
✅ Basic Skills
Sufficient reading and English language skills to understand safety instructions, construction drawings, written specifications, equipment labels, and credential preparation materials.
✅ Behavior & Professionalism
Positive attitude, punctuality, reliability, and willingness to work as part of a team.
Ability to take direction, communicate respectfully, follow safety rules, complete assigned work, and demonstrate the professionalism expected by employers in the skilled trades.
