About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Maintenance Technician to join our Engineering Maintenance team at the Port of Dover.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll play a key part in ensuring our wide range of port assets are maintained, repaired, and operating safely and efficiently. You will be working in the Transport team maintaining HGV, Mobile and Harbour Mobile Cranes, Forklift trucks, Telehandlers, vehicles and other mobile plant and equipment. You will also be expected to have a basic knowledge of the Ports other assets including Linkspans, Dock Gates, and Mooring equipment.
You will bring strong technical expertise, the ability to diagnose and resolve complex faults, and a proactive, can-do approach to problem solving.

Key Responsibilities
• Carry out maintenance, repair and improvement work across a broad range of port assets
• Diagnose faults on complex equipment and implement effective solutions
• Deliver both planned preventative and reactive maintenance
• Complete inspection reports and maintenance documentation (manual or electronic)
• Conduct statutory inspections and report findings via the Port’s ERP system
• Work closely with colleagues to identify recurring faults and recommend improvements
• Ensure all work is completed in line with health & safety standards and risk assessments
• Act as lead/coordinator on smaller projects when required
• Liaise with contractors, stakeholders and other departments
• Support and mentor colleagues and apprentices
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
• Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline, ideally in a transport or plant environment to (minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
• At least 3 years’ post-qualification experience
• Experience with HGV, Heavy Plant, mobile hydraulic systems,
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
• Experience reviewing and creating RAMS
• Good IT literacy
• Full UK driving licence
• Welding/fabrication experience (desirable)

Working Environment
This is a physically demanding role where you will:
• Work in varied conditions including noise, weather exposure, and heavy-duty environments
• Be required to work additional hours, including overtime and emergency callouts
• Participate in a standby rota or 24/7 shift rota once fully trained

Hours of work: Monday – Friday 40hrs per week
Salary: IRO £42k per annum

All offers of employment are subject to us obtaining satisfactory references (covering all education, training, employment and unemployment in the preceding 5 years) and there will be a pre-employment medical including a Drug and Alcohol test. We need to satisfy your Right to Work in the UK.
