As a Technical Advisor - Mechanical, you will be the subject matter expert for our maintenance team, offering practical guidance, mentoring, and technical advice to keep our metropolitan water and wastewater systems operating safely and efficiently.
You will also play a key part in the daily supervision of maintenance activities, making sure everything runs to plan, on time, and within budget.
You will help deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective solutions that make a real difference to the community.

This permanent full-time position is primarily located at our Beenyup Wastewater Treatment Plant, with regular work also undertaken at our Alkimos facility, providing a diverse opportunity to work across both sites.

Mechanical Asset Management & Technical Support
Provide specialist mechanical engineering expertise to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical assets. This includes troubleshooting complex asset performance issues, optimising maintenance strategies, developing technical solutions, and providing guidance, training, and support to operational teams.
Risk, Compliance & Asset Reliability
Ensure mechanical assets operate in accordance with regulatory, safety, and operational requirements by managing risk, supporting compliance activities, and driving asset reliability initiatives. This includes leading risk assessments, contingency planning, and reviewing engineering changes and designs to maintain asset integrity.
Asset Condition Monitoring & Improvement
Oversee asset condition monitoring and performance assessment programs to identify maintenance, refurbishment, and replacement needs. Using data-driven insights and industry best practices, provide recommendations that improve asset reliability, lifecycle performance, and long-term investment planning.
Project Delivery & Engineering Support
Provide technical leadership and specialist engineering support for the delivery of mechanical asset projects, from design review through to commissioning and handover. Ensure new and upgraded assets meet operational requirements, compliance standards, and long-term maintainability objectives.
Contract & Contractor Management
Manage and oversee contractors and service providers to ensure maintenance and technical work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with contractual obligations. Monitor performance, review variations and claims, and support the successful completion and handover of asset works and projects.
Your skills and experience
Degree level qualification in relevant discipline such as engineering AND considerable experience in coordinating and providing operational and support services within a multi-disciplined service organisation.
OR
Tertiary or Trade Certificate level qualification in a relevant discipline AND substantial experience in coordinating and providing technical and support services within a multi-disciplined service organisation.
· ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence
· Considerable experience in the operations and maintenance of water services infrastructure.
· Considerable experience in a supervisory role in mechanical installation.
· Considerable experience with mechanical testing and commissioning.

We’re the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in Western Australia to hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and farms, as well as providing bulk water to farms for irrigation.
Our services, projects and activities span over 2.6 million square kilometres. We have regional offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam and Kalgoorlie which allow our employees to provide a high level of professional expertise to customers.
We have over 3,500 employees and manage an asset base of over $37 billion in water supply, wastewater, drainage infrastructure and bulk water for irrigation.
We’re owned by the Western Australian Government and are accountable to our sole shareholder, the Minister for Water, for delivery of our services in a commercial manner. Most of our surplus is returned to the government as a dividend to contribute to the development of the state, with the remainder reinvested in capital works.
Water Corporation was created in January 1996, in a restructure of the water industry in Western Australia. The Water Authority in turn had been created in 1985 through a merger of the former Metropolitan Water Authority, which operated in Perth, the state capital, and the water and wastewater operations of the former WA Public Works Department. We’re the seventh successive agency to deal with these services in Perth, Western Australia.
