Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Provides the first-line supervision of various craft personnel on an assigned shift for mechanical operations. Duties will vary depending on whether the position is located at a freight car or locomotive repair facility.

Principal Duties:

  • Duties for a locomotive facility may involve an overhaul of diesel locomotives and their electrical and mechanical components.
  • Duties for a freight car facility may involve an overhaul, repair and modification of business car mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Inspect, service, and repair freight cars.
  • Maintenance of support equipment and shop equipment as required (including car department tools and dies).
  • Handles line-of-road train problems and repairs as needed.
  • Supervise emergency situations such as derailments, crossing accidents, spillage, or lading problems.

Job Related (Railroad) Experience:

  • Minimum Level:  1-2 years
  • Preferred Level:  1-2 years

Education:

  • Preferred Level:  High School Diploma/GED (BS)
  • Preferred Majors: Electrical Engineering, Engineering Science, Mechanical Engineering

Skills:

  • Leadership experience with the ability to handle conflict and foster a positive work environment
  • Ability to promote a culture of safety awareness and accident prevention.
  • Ability to relocate and work flexible days/hours as determined by business needs
  • Some knowledge and maintenance experience of engines and machinery
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and TYES
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement
