Golden Pass LNG, a joint venture between ExxonMobil and QatarEnergy, has the vision of becoming the premier LNG export company in North America. It is our mission to bring clean energy from Texas to power the world, and we seek to do that in a way that values safety, integrity, our people, community, and the environment. In order to achieve those goals, we are bringing together a diverse team of experienced and talented professionals. Headquartered in Downtown Houston, the Golden Pass LNG organization expects to double in size over the next several years as we complete the project, commence natural gas trading activities, and ramp up towards full LNG production. Once full operations commence, Golden Pass LNG will become the second largest consumer of natural gas in the US and produce more than 200 cargos of LNG per annum.
/ Purpose
The Mechanical Supervisor will be responsible for Leading and Supervising all work as required for maintaining a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound operation of an LNG facility. The Mechanical Supervisor is a leader for the Mechanical maintenance team and all outside general contractors supporting mechanical work. This will range from 50 to 200+ craftsmen depending on contractor demand. This role will also be liaison with internal and external parties and will interface directly with Operations Supervision, Managers, Engineers, Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Specialists, Operators, Contractors, and Vendors and uphold and ensure compliance with SSHE&R and compliance standards for performance and behavior.
The Mechanical Supervisor is a DOT covered position (PHMSA).
Essential Duties / Functions
1. Field Execution Leadership / Safety & Quality Assurance:
- Supervise daily mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring crews understand scope, procedures, SSHE requirements, and quality standards
- Conduct and support technicians leading pre-job briefings, site walkdowns, and post-job debriefs to align expectations and capture lessons learned
- Enforce proper use of LOTO, work permits, JSAs, and safety-critical procedures during all field tasks. Act as a champion for Personnel Safety Management System (PSMS)
- Rapidly address execution issues—providing clear direction, removing obstacles, and escalating complex challenges
- Support and allocate resources to enable success of Management of Change (MOC) processes and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
- Hold crews accountable to Golden Pass LNG values: i.e., “We Will Work Safely or Not at All” and “Do Everything with Integrity” – See Maintenance Leadership Expectations
- Audit field work for compliance with SSHE standards, equipment isolation, and quality specifications
- Lead After-Action Reviews and incident investigations in your area, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence
2. Mechanical Maintenance Oversight:
- Direct and oversee craft technicians perform daily preventative and corrective maintenance work in mechanical (static equipment and machinery) and soft (scaffolding/insulation) crafts
- In addition, it would include pump/loading arm maintenance, pressure vessel/heat exchanger/piping system maintenance, routine integrity maintenance, civil/structural maintenance, first level troubleshooting, pump/compressor performance testing, and mechanical/civil/structural repair/remediation of associated equipment
- Oversee select support specialty/vendor contractors for field execution of maintenance and troubleshooting, such as vibration monitoring/analysis, seal replacements, overhauls, and specialty equipment repairs
- Manage testing, calibration, and actuator troubleshooting for critical isolation, control, and relief valves
- Support inspection and quality activities, including provision of associated non-specialty craft support required for activities – integrity inspections, torquing, hydrostatic testing, NDE, thickness measurements, and corrosion monitoring
- Ensure proper handling of insulation systems and structural supports that protect static equipment in cryogenic service
3. Resource Coordination, Collaboration & Process Improvement:
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance Reliability, Maintenance Projects and Engineering teams to clarify priorities, manage resource constraints, and sequence work effectively
- Liaise with planning/scheduling to confirm job packs, material staging, and permits are ready for crew mobilization
- Partner with Procurement and Warehouse on goods received and material loading, as applicable
- Coordinate with contractor management specialists for crew onboarding and qualifications—enabling you to focus on field execution
- Ensure availability and proper use of tools, equipment, and PPE for all mechanical work
- Facilitate field-driven improvement initiatives: barrier analyses, reliability feedback loops, and best-practice sharing
- Support Annual Maintenance Plans, budget and schedule targets by providing field input to scope to assist planning in providing accurate cost estimates and tracking performance
- Provide field-based insights to Maintenance Programs, feeding back performance data and improvement ideas
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, across all levels of the organization
- Champion enhancements to tools, procedures, or job-pack quality that boost efficiency and reduce rework
- Embed lessons learned into daily routines to elevate execution across the maintenance organization
4. Team Leadership & Development:
- Coach, mentor, and evaluate technicians through hands-on feedback and on-the-job training
- Support development and improvement of training programs and conduct capability assessments to close skill gaps
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and pride in workmanship
- Address personnel issues fairly and pragmatically, creating a strong team environment

- Continuously challenge and improve safety, material usage, labor productivity, and cycle times to optimize overall maintenance costs
- Develop and sustain technician competencies in systems, procedures, and maintenance processes

- Align with Maintenance Management and Reliability teams on risk-based work selection and reliability strategies to focus resources on highest-impact tasks
- Champion quality stewardship meetings to validate field expectations and continuous-improvement initiatives
- Monitor and respond to KPI scorecards (PM compliance, backlog trends, LACDs). Identify improvement opportunities and execute action plans

8. Build and Sustain Team Capability
- Develop and execute resource plans that align staffing and skills with asset needs
- Conduct capability assessments and gap analyses, then implement targeted training programs and on-the-job coaching

Minimum Requirements
Minimum education required of the position
- Bachelor's or associate degree or relevant technical discipline or equivalent work experience
Minimum experience required of the position
- 5+ years of mechanical maintenance supervision preferred
- 7-10 years of required experience in petroleum, chemical manufacturing facility or an LNG facility
- Preferred:
-LNG facility experience, cryogenic refrigeration, gas processing, and steam systems
-Direct hands-on experience with GE Frame 7 gas turbines and centrifugal compressors preferred
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) – SAP
- Strong knowledge of critical SSHE and regulatory procedures (incident reporting, environmental response, hazard awareness), work permitting practices (LOTO/work-permit systems), and quality maintenance execution standards
- Ability to manage during a crisis and make decisions during an emergency
- Exceptional communicator and problem solver who thrives in fast-paced field settings
