Job Description

About the role

This permanent full-time role reports to the Engineering & Reliability Superintendent and plays a critical part in ensuring the availability and optimum operation of static equipment assets at Yara Pilbara.

What you’ll do day-to-day

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for plant equipment
  • Analyse equipment failures and lead root cause investigations
  • Optimise preventive maintenance strategies and tasks
  • Support daily maintenance activities and planning
  • Develop repair methodologies for major repairs of static equipment such as storage tanks, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, piping systems, and structural supports
  • Review and manage spare parts and critical spares
  • Maintain accurate equipment data in SAP and improve data quality.
  • Provide design and engineering support for pressure vessels and piping systems, including verifying calculations, selecting materials, and reviewing fabrication drawings and vendor documents
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and codes such as ASME, API, and relevant ISO standards
  • Lead and support static equipment projects, coordinating with process, piping, and structural engineers
  • Prepare and publish maintenance procedures and work instructions
  • Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) processes and actions
  • Ensure compliance with technical standards, procedures, and industry best practice
  • Supervise overhauls and projects, ensuring quality and documentation sign-off
  • Act as site Subject Matter Expert for static equipment
  • Collaborate with inspection teams to implement risk-based inspection outcomes
  • Identify performance trends and improvement opportunities
  • Deliver training on equipment reliability and maintenance practice

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Full member of Engineers Australia (MIEAust)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar industry as a Maintenance Static Equipment Engineer (petrochemical, gas processing, or oil refining)
  • Strong SAP skills are a distinct advantage, along with intermediate to advanced MS Office experience
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel design, piping engineering, finite element analysis (FEA), stress analysis (PSA), materials engineering, and RBI methodology
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PV Elite, CAESAR II, ANSYS, or similar engineering software is highly desirable
  • Fluent English (verbal and written) is essential

About the Unit

Yara Pilbara is part of Yara International, a global crop nutrition company. The Pilbara site is one of the world’s largest ammonia production facilities, with downstream processing through the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara is also developing a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.
