Mechanical Project Engineer

Gilbert Mechanical is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to assist with overseeing the installation of mechanical systems in commercial and industrial buildings. The successful candidate will support Gilbert’s estimating, design, and project management teams to deliver customer satisfaction. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential to effectively collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate and develop proposals for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical construction projects.
  • Support design-build projects by coordinating mechanical system design, equipment selection, constructability reviews, and project execution.
  • Assist project managers from preconstruction through commissioning and closeout.
  • Help direct and supervise project activities to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships and ensure projects are completed to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Plan and coordinate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project resources.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Conduct site visits, job walks, and project meetings to monitor progress and resolve technical or construction-related challenges.
  • Collaborate with field leaders, engineers, estimators, and fabrication personnel to optimize project performance.
  • Apply current industry standards, building codes, mechanical design practices, and construction methods throughout project execution.
  • Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and turnover activities.
  • Respond to customer requests and service-related issues as needed.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, piping, plumbing, or project management will be considered.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination, or related design software is a plus.

Successful Candidates Will Possess

  • Results-oriented mindset with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and project success.
  • Knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC, plumbing, piping, building systems, and mechanical construction practices.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, equipment selection, energy-efficient building systems, and construction methodologies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, contractors, field personnel, clients, and design professionals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and construction/project management software.
  • Experience with estimating software and project budgeting tools preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Compensation for new hires is $70,000 - $80,000/yr.
