Location: Emporia,Kansas,United States

The Need:

Our client is looking for a qualified Mechanical Project Engineer to be responsible for completing the mechanical, process and installation of capital projects as well as Plant Technical support to enable the plant to meet its market, productivity, and/or quality goals. They will assist our central engineering team with pre-studies of deployment and development projects in the mechanical engineering field. They will also execute design studies, manage contract engineering resources, follow procurement, fabrication, and factory acceptance of equipment, manage the installation, commissioning, and startup of the equipment in an industrial plant environment, including both brownfield and greenfield environments.

This support is needed starting immediately and currently planned to last 12 months. The position will be reassessed on a regular basis.

Location: Emporia, KS (Onsite)
Contract:
12 months with option to extend. CTH is not in scope at this time for this position.
Work Status: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (Green Card or US Citizen only) H1 may be considered if agency sponsored.

Work Schedule:

  • Normal work hours 40 hrs/ week Monday – Friday, however occasional shifts in schedules can be made to provide coverage for project installations and start-ups requiring weekend or holiday coverage.
  • Overtime work may be approved as needed but will not be typical.
  • Work Plant Shutdowns as needed. This work almost always falls on weekends & Holidays.
  • Work schedules will vary based on project need and assignment.
  • Up to 5% domestic and some international travel

Day-to-day job responsibilities:

  • Provide Mechanical Engineering design for assigned projects including machine specification, sizing and selection, mechanical part, assembly and schematic drawings, layout drawings, components specification, sizing and selection, bill of materials and complete machine documentation package for the life of machine (dossier).
  • Respect the company's mechanical design standards in all equipment designs.
  • Provide project documentation: mechanical designs, technical offer, safety risk assessment, maintenance & operator training documents and user manuals.
  • Facilitate the procurement of equipment and materials for assigned projects.
  • Provide equipment acceptance inspections on equipment that comes into the plant.
  • Provide liaison between facility engineering, central quality, methods and purchasing teams, and equipment suppliers to assure good mutual system requirement understanding.
  • Project support, especially during installation, start-up and ramp up phases, is often "on-site" and "hands on", and many projects include implementation schedules during holidays and shutdowns.
  • Evaluate, develop, implement and/or improve on processes in manufacturing systems for safety, process capability and efficiency while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Monitor and assess performance of plans and/or processes to make improvements or take corrective action, to optimize efficiency through various work cells and operations.
  • Support the production start-up of new products, processes and equipment into production, while collaborating with the material and product development teams to insure manufacturability of the product.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes, considering relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Work in multidisciplinary team with Engineering, Product development, Manufacturing and Sales advocating, promoting and practicing cultural sensitivity and responsiveness in all day-to-day interactions.

Key Expected Achievements

  • Feasibility studies are carried out with challenged and validated CDCs, the possible solutions are evaluated from the point of view of costs, deadlines, risks, functional choice criteria.
  • Integration studies are conducted in cooperation with other businesses.
  • The quality system and the methods of group are implemented (risk analyzes, FMEA, design reviews, quality planning, DTE, treatment of NC).
  • Validations (CI, RF, RC) are obtained after the phases of realization, installation, start-up and development of the equipment made in collaboration with related metiers of the industry.
  • Prototype projects managed by the process development teams are supported.

Must Have Requirements:

  • BSMechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (4+years) with use and understanding of mechanical design standards; OSHA, ASME, ANSI, ISO, etc.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Mechanical Engineering experience in a Manufacturing setting required, 5 years preferred with expertise using AutoCAD or Draftsight 2D.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, piping and fitting required
