Job Description

DataVolt is a global leader in sustainable and innovative data center solutions. We provide businesses across the world with the infrastructure they need to connect, collaborate, and grow in the data-driven landscape of today. Our solutions focus on security, reliability, scalability, and sustainability, empowering our clients to truly achieve digital transformation. We have strategically positioned operations in Riyadh, Dubai, California, Mumbai and Tashkent and are committed to shaping a sustainable digital future through groundbreaking innovation.

Responsibilities:

The Critical Facility Engineer (CFE) is a senior technical specialist responsible for the engineering integrity, optimization, and day-to-day operational reliability of the data center's critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure. This role sits between the Critical Facility Manager (CFM) and the Facility Technicians, providing deep technical expertise, engineering oversight, and shift leadership within a 24/7 colocation environment.

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain all mechanical cooling infrastructure including chillers, cooling towers / dry coolers, CRAC and CRAH units, precision cooling, in-row cooling, chilled water distribution pipework, pumps, and variable speed drives (VSDs)
  • Monitor and optimize chilled water system performance — supply/return temperatures, differential pressure, delta-T, flow rates — and adjust parameters to maximize efficiency
  • Maintain refrigerant records in compliance with applicable regulations; oversee refrigerant handling, top-ups, and leak testing in coordination with certified contractors
  • Optimize cooling efficiency and PUE — review containment integrity, airflow management, setpoint optimization, and free cooling utilization
  • Conduct root cause analysis for cooling system failures and produce engineering reports with recommendations for improvement

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in critical facility, data center, or mission-critical infrastructure engineering
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrable expertise in at least one primary discipline (electrical OR mechanical/cooling) with working knowledge of the other
  • Experience operating and maintaining UPS systems, diesel generators, and HV/LV electrical distribution in a live critical environment
  • Experience operating and maintaining chilled water cooling systems, CRACs/CRAHs, and associated mechanical plant
  • Proven experience leading or contributing to complex technical investigations and producing engineering reports
  • Demonstrated experience working to permit-to-work, LOTO, RAMS, and change management procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of power system protection, discrimination, and earthing in LV/MV distribution environments
  • Strong understanding of UPS topologies, battery chemistry, and battery management
  • Knowledge of diesel generator control systems, AVRs, governors, AMF logic, and paralleling
  • Understanding of chilled water system hydraulics, Air Cooled Chillers, refrigeration cycles, and heat rejection equipment
  • Working knowledge of building automation protocols (BACnet, Modbus, LON) and SCADA/BMS systems
  • Familiarity/Knowledge of data center operational systems like ServiceNow, Nuovolo, Nlyte and Niagara
  • Familiarity with data center energy efficiency standards and benchmarks (PUE, ASHRAE standards, EU Code of Conduct for Data Centers)
  • Understanding of fire suppression systems (FM200, NOVEC 1230, CO2, pre-action) and their safe operation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS) or Operations Professional (AOP) certification
  • CDCTP — Certified Data Center Technician Professional
  • Manufacturer certifications in UPS or generator systems (e.g., Schneider Electric, Eaton, ABB, Caterpillar, Cummins)
  • F-Gas handling qualification or refrigerant handling certification
  • Authorized Person (AP) or Competent Person (CP) qualification for HV/LV electrical switching
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar for reviewing and marking up engineering drawings
