Wood is recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team in Equatorial Guinea
Candidates should demonstrate thorough knowledge and experience on mechanical equipment maintenance principles in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or LNG industries.
Required to provide leadership as the SME for maintenance engineering issues specifically for Offshore Pedestal Cranes, root cause failure analysis and support the onshore and offshore facilities in terms of Operation, Preventive Maintenance, repairs and equipment obsolescence.
Identify opportunities to improve safety and reliability while possessing sufficient knowledge and courage to take appropriate action, ability to supervise others and provide guidance as required, able to perform complex Mechanical Engineering tasks and fault finding without supervision, provide coaching and mentoring to younger engineers, self-motivated initiations of appropriate intervention and actions.
Location: offshore Equatorial Guinea
Rotation Work Pattern: 4 weeks on 4 weeks off, 7-day week 12-hour day
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing comprehensive Mechanical Maintenance Engineering support and maintenance recommendations to ensure the integrity, reliability and availability of pedestal crane & onshore gas plant mobile cranes equipment and systems in compliance with the Company’s Responsible Operation Management System as well as all Company Health, Environment and Safety Policies. The focus of this position is to be the SME Mechanical Maintenance for offshore and onshore facilities. Pedestal Crane owner of the safety & environmental critical elements related to cranes, provide technical support, reliability oversight, and engineering assurance primarily for all cranes.
Demonstrated competency on mechanical equipment maintenance, operation, and design in order to identify areas of improvement through fault or failure analysis, expertise on the operation and preventive/predictive/proactive technologies on crane equipment such as hydraulic systems and engines. Knowledge on control valves, pressure safety valves, fans, bearings, sea water lift pumps air compressor skids, fire water systems and the likes. Must be a problem solver and an innovator to provide the best solutions for mechanical maintenance, mechanical integrity and safety.
- Lead any investigations into equipment trips/failures defining actions to be taken to resolve the issue. Managing these actions to completion.
- Act as technical Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for offshore platforms and onshore gas plant for all work associated with the recovery, commissioning, and startup of crane equipment.
- Ensures Company meets internationally accepted mechanical engineering standards and best practices in design and operational performance of offshore pedestal cranes.
- Develop/monitor Mechanical Maintenance Engineering strategies, procedures and standards and systems for sustaining plant integrity and reliability of the cranes.
- Acts as the primary Onshore engineering focal point for crane systems.
- Works proactively with vendors to resolve recurring defects, component failures, and reliability issues.
- Reviews maintenance findings from offshore identifies failure trends and recommends engineering corrective actions.
- Ensures technical compliance with API RP‑2D, OEM service updates, safety bulletins, and vendor recommendations.
- Manages the interface with third‑party specialists for troubleshooting, component repair, inspections, and equipment upgrades.
- Supports the development of long‑term reliability strategies, spare‑holding improvements, and lifecycle planning for cranes equipment.
- Provides engineering review, maintenance scopes, technical deviations, and failure investigations.
- Ensures lessons learned (e.g., blocked gauze filters, contamination issues, wire rope failures, FWP starter faults) are captured and communicated across departments.
- Work with Maintenance Supervisors (Onshore & Offshore) to planned maintenance work – continual optimization of predictive and preventative maintenance strategies based on equipment history/condition-based monitoring capabilities to the extent reasonably practical.
- Signing off on hand over documentation following repair work by a 3rd party contractor.
- Manages responsible for the Capex and Opex project budgets for crane improvement.
- Review existing proposed work scope (reactive, planned, upgrades and develop a business case for either doing these or rejecting them)
- Support work force development efforts by personally committing to actively participate in the mentoring and coaching activities designed to enhance the skills, competencies, and performance of the young engineers.
- Advise in the development and oversee operation of equipment performance and obsolescence.
- Initiate and recommend equipment and/or system changes for improvement.
- Sound understanding and knowledge of broader mechanical engineering expertise and practical experience of plant maintenance.
- Ability to technically support fault analysis and system interrogation and assist to resolve new problems.
- Sound interpersonal, communication and IT skills to communicate well at all levels including management, maintenance, and operations.
- Ability to produce soundly presented technical reports.
- Conduct RCFA on significant equipment failures
- Run MTBR & MTBF reports on select equipment/component for reliability improvement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of Preventive Maintenance Routines with the intent to optimize equipment life.

Job Specific Skills:
Several years experience of Mechanical Maintenance Engineering work in a direct support role of plant equipment operations and maintenance.
Demonstrate relative knowledge on crane operation, maintenance and most common failure modes.
PC Application Skills:
Familiar with Microsoft compatible systems and Microsoft support software
Planning/scheduling software and SAP S4 Hanna.
Personal Attributes:
Experience working in an expatriate environment and dealing with various country cultures.
Proficient in English, written and spoken
