Description

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 12 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Mechanical Maintenance and Operations Supervisor supervises the mechanical maintenance and operation of the Blackburn Correctional Complex (BCC).

Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Supervises the mechanical maintenance and operation of the entire physical plant of the multi-building correctional facility.
  • Supervises crews in performing preventative maintenance on and in the operation of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, electrical systems, and associated equipment within the institution.
  • Supervises and performs maintenance on plumbing and sewage treatment.
  • Reviews plans for repairs and or alterations of the physical plant to determine whether or not such plans meet state, local, and, or, agency standards.
  • Conducts on-the-job training for inmate staff or other staff assigned to maintenance and operations.
  • Completes maintenance reports.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of experience in the maintenance and/or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation equipment or electrical systems.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be 18 years of age.

Working Conditions

May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
