The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Mechanical Trainer – CAT Maintenance to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.

  • Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

  • Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.

  • Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.

  • Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.

  • Perform inspections in accordance with mine standards and OEM specifications.

  • Assign and prioritize daily, weekly, and major repairs, ensuring efficient allocation of resources and timely completion of work.

  • Manage maintenance personnel in the execution of the weekly work plan.

  • Lead maintenance practices that will focus on reaching operational excellence, and enhance maintenance capabilities to deliver improved equipment reliability, decreasing repair and maintenance costs.

  • Well organized and capable of setting a daily/weekly/monthly plan

  • Comply with company safety and environmental regulations

  • Management and direct supervision of team performance ensuring safety, advance work preparation and quality for the execution for various types of maintenance interventions

  • Take necessary measurements to ensure quality results and avoid reworks.

  • Implement a development program for junior and senior local staff which shall include direct training and coaching of the team in order to transfer best methodologies of work preparation and execution

  • Attend shift and toolbox meetings daily with the teams to stay completely grounded and aligned with the current social climates around the work place

  • Lead or participate in incident investigations (RCFA) related to electrical equipment failures or safety incidents, implementing effective corrective actions.

  • Collaborate with the Planning and Reliability Superintendent, other Foremen, and Operations to plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance activities.

  • Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

  • Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.

  • Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance, including Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), equipment availability, and maintenance backlog.

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and testing within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Collaborate with Engineering and OEMs to implement modifications, upgrades, and best practices.

  • Provide feedback to OEMs to support continuous improvement of equipment performance and operation.

  • Perform any additional duties and tasks as required by your supervisor.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/ Vocational School, Apprenticeship training, on-the-job training (FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test or its Equivalent).
  • Computer literacy is essential- Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, ERP and MRPII packages (SAP, Ellipse, Pronto, Oracle etc.)

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Minimum of 7–10 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter/Trainer, with a substantial portion dedicated to heavy mobile equipment in a mining or heavy industrial environment Experience of open cast mobile mining equipment & operations.

  • Must have a tertiary qualification and the ability to read engineering drawings related to Open cast mobile equipment.

  • Must have Sandvik Machine experience
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Maintenance Management Systems
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical fitting and mobile equipment maintenance planning/scheduling

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a mechanical fitting and mobile equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with selection, Maintenance and operation of Mechanical equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of auto electrical maintenance planning and scheduling.

  • Good understanding of the open cast mining operation and maintenance activities

  • Ability to consistently manage such a diversified portfolio in a high-pressure environment

  • Experienced in skills transfer and team development, in a cross-cultural environment.

  • Experience in open cast is essential.
