About the Role
We are seeking skilled and safety focused Mechanical Fitters for the upcoming AMPOL Refinery Turnaround. You will work directly with Supervisors, Leading Hands and UGL/Ampol leadership to perform mechanical maintenance, repairs, and shutdown activities.
The turnaround runs from Mid-July – September 2026, working a 6 days on / 1 day off roster Night shift on 50% of scope.
This role is hands on and critical to the successful delivery of mechanical work scopes across the site.

Key Responsibilities
•Carry out mechanical shutdown and maintenance activities including:
–Column entry, inspection, and maintenance
–Floating head heat exchangers
–Fin Fan heat exchangers
–Valve servicing, repair, replacement.
–Pipework, fittings, and line preparation
–Hydrotesting setup and execution
•Read, understand, and execute against mechanical work packs.
•Ensure all work is completed safely in accordance with Permit to Work, isolation and confined space entry processes.
•Conduct pre-task risk assessments, hazard identification, and JSA participation.
•Work effectively within mechanical work groups to meet scope, schedule, and quality targets.
•Support QA requirements, record keeping and the completion of punch lists.
•Communicate progress, issues, and delays to your Supervisor in a timely manner.
•Maintain high standards of housekeeping, tooling care, and safe work practices.
About You
•Trade qualified Mechanical Fitter.
•Experience in oil refining, gas/chemical processing, power generation, or heavy industrial shutdowns.
•Proven capability working with columns, heat exchangers, valves, hydrotesting and general refinery mechanical equipment.
•Strong understanding of high-risk work controls including isolation, confined space, W@H and hot work.
•Able to follow detailed instructions, mechanical plans and shutdown work packages.
•Safety-first mindset with strong attention to detail.
•Physically capable, reliable and proactive in demanding shutdown environments.
•Confident working as part of diverse mechanical teams.
