Job Summary:
Capital Rubber and Gasket is seeking a hardworking Mechanical Field Service Technician to join our Stockton location. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position supporting customers throughout Northern California.
This hands-on position focuses on installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing conveyor belt systems and related mechanical components. The ideal candidate will have practical mechanical experience and a general understanding of welding, with the ability to perform simple field welds for belt scraper installations and other basic repairs. Expert-level welding or a welding certification is not required.
Conveyor belt experience is preferred; however, we will train qualified mechanical candidates on our specialized belt-splicing and vulcanizing processes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- This position requires a commitment to safety as our number one priority, and a strong dedication to producing quality work.
- Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair conveyor belt systems and related mechanical components.
- Diagnose mechanical problems involving bearings, motors, gearboxes, pulleys, idlers, belt tracking, guards, belt scrapers, and other conveyor components.
- Remove and replace worn or damaged mechanical components using appropriate hand tools, power tools, air tools, and measuring equipment.
- Install, align, adjust, and service belt scrapers and related brackets, supports, and hardware.
- Perform basic field welding and light fabrication for belt scraper brackets, guards, supports, and straightforward repairs.
- Safely perform basic cutting, grinding, drilling, fitting, and material preparation as needed.
- Ability to assemble vulcanizing equipment
- Ability to select and set up work area, including removal of conveyor components, clamping off belt, and raising counterweight
- Ability to properly lay out and prepare belt ends for a vulcanized splice, including lap splicing and finger splicing on fabric belt widths from 24″-96″ after training and demonstrated competency.
- Develop a general understanding of the company’s product lines and explain relevant product features and benefits to customers.
Minimum Requirements:
- Hands-on mechanical experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, heavy-equipment repair, manufacturing maintenance, millwright work, conveyor service, or a related mechanical trade.
- General welding knowledge and the ability to safely perform simple welds. MIG, stick, or similar welding experience is acceptable; expert-level welding or certification is not required.
- Valid driver’s license required upon hire and as a condition of continued employment.
- Drive company vehicles and truck-and-trailer combinations safely.
- Ability to understand written and verbal safety instructions, work procedures, and job-site communications in English.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Safely lift and move 75 to 100 pounds frequently using proper lifting techniques and assistance or mechanical lifting equipment when appropriate.
- Be available to work a variable on-call schedule that may include day shifts, night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and emergency service assignments.
- Work independently with limited supervision and contribute effectively as part of a field-service crew.
Criteria/Conditions:
- Work is performed in various industrial settings, including shop environment, mining environment, and construction environment. Work sites may include exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, and airborne particles and fumes from adhesives, solvents, and paints.
- While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, and work on elevated platforms.
- Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and, as needed, respirator, gloves, and other required protective equipment.
- Pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Subject to a pre-employment background check.
