About LondonEnergy

At LondonEnergy, we’re proud of our vital role in managing North London’s waste and protecting the environment. As part of the team, you’ll already know that we handle and process 750,000 tonnes of waste each year, making us the second largest waste contract in the UK.

Together, we generate enough energy from waste to power around 80,000 homes annually and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres. This is only possible thanks to the dedication of our people, who make a real difference every day.

About the Role:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineering Manager to join LondonEnergy in a pivotal leadership role at our Edmonton site in North London.

As Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will lead the Mechanical Maintenance Department, ensuring the delivery of practical, high-quality engineering solutions across both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown activities. Your focus will be on maintaining the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant and associated equipment.

You will play a key role in the pre-planning and execution of major boiler and turbine shutdowns, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams. During outage periods, you will closely monitor progress, adapting plans as required to address unforeseen maintenance and repair needs while minimising downtime.

In addition, you will be responsible for developing clear and accurate budget forecasts for all maintenance and engineering activities, ensuring work is delivered within agreed financial targets and contributing to overall operational efficiency.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact in a dynamic, essential industry environment.

As our Mechanical Engineering Manager, you are also responsible for:

  • Enhance, manage, and continuously review the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme to ensure cost-effective and appropriate maintenance routines
  • Plan and initiate statutory inspections in line with regulations, ensuring compliance and minimal disruption to plant availability
  • Develop and implement technically sound, commercially viable solutions to reduce plant breakdowns and improve reliability
  • Support staff with problem-solving and the development of effective engineering solutions, including delivery of delegated project work
  • Collaborate with planning teams to optimise outage programmes, minimising downtime and controlling associated costs
  • Manage departmental budgets and maintenance expenditure, monitoring variances and driving cost-saving initiatives
  • Lead, motivate, and develop team members by providing guidance, addressing performance, and identifying and delivering training needs

Requirements

To be considered for this role, we are looking for the following knowledge and experience:

  • Degree or Higher National Diploma / Certificate or equivalent in a relevant Engineering discipline (mechanical or electrical).
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, guidance and systems, and other relevant Regulations.
  • Ability to manage a team and motivate them to deliver service above the minimum.
  • Experience of designing, costing and managing implementation of large process engineering improvements.
  • In depth technical and operational experience to oversee effective maintenance and commissioning plans implemented.
  • Demonstrable experience of drafting accurate budgets and delivering actual costs in line with them and analysing, reporting and addressing variances.

Benefits

  • Private Medical & Life Insurance
  • Company Pension Scheme
  • Annual Leave Package
  • Employee Recognition Scheme
  • Access to Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • + Many more benefits
