Altera is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Platform Engineering Board team as an undergraduate intern Mechanical Engineer to develop product and system level solutions for Altera's programmable FPGA devices.
Your skills will shape the system level design of next generation FPGAs. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the product level design for development, rapid prototyping and production systems.
Expectations focus on working closely with product architecture, board design, silicon package engineering communities to deliver platform level solutions.
You will work on developing the system level mechanical and thermal solution based on application and feature requirements.
Requirements include AutoCAD or Pro/Engineer (CREO) experiences with foundation understanding of mechanical or thermal design concepts, having clear communication skills and the courage to take on new challenges.
What you will do:
Work with a world-wide team under guidance of senior engineers to design and develop mechanical and thermal systems and mechanical solutions for PCB layouts with high quality and minimum iterations.
Perform basics thermal and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and complete detailed part design.
Involves in prototype and production designs to reduce technical and schedule risk.
Work with cross-functional engineering teams and occasionally with suppliers (contract design and manufacturing).
Involves in design for manufacturing (DFM) and assembly (DFA) feasibility studies.
Contribute in product feasibility studies to meet marketing requirements.
Provide risk assessments to identify and predict engineering issues to prevent impacts to project priorities.
Helps assess materials, processes, and technologies to meet product and project goals.
Documenting technical data, information (CAD database, technical papers, presentations, specifications, etc.) according to Altera's standards.
Bachelor (Master) of Science/Engineering in Mechanical Engineering
Knowledge of injection plastic molding and sheet metal processes is a plus
Knowledge of system design, PCIe card design, heatsink, and socket design
Knowledge of drafting 2D and application of GDnT principles is a strong plus
Knowledge in CREO or AutoCAD EDA tools is a strong desire
Knowledge on thermal modeling (Icepak or equivalent thermal modeling and simulation) tool is a strong plus but not compulsory
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills in a design team
