Are you an Engineer, in the fields of Mechanical or Naval architecture, and looking for an opportunity in the marine industry? Join Fleetway Inc.’s engineering team and be a part of Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy and the Halifax Class Design Agent contracts. Through these contracts, Fleetway’s engineers provide a full range of technical data management and engineering support services to the Royal Canadian Navy. Be part of a team that produces complex designs to support new structures and systems, that will ensure the Royal Canadian Navy is “ready to help, ready to lead, and ready to fight”.

If we sound like a team you’d like to be a part of, and make a difference with, then we’d love to hear from you! We are looking for a qualified Mechanical Engineer or Naval Architecture Engineer, Co-op student for our St. John's, NL office location.

During your internship, you can expect to be part of an outstanding group of Naval Architects, Mechanical, and Electrical engineers and technologists.

We tailor your work experience to your skills and abilities. If you choose to work on one specific project and hone your skills in a particular area, we can make that happen. If you prefer broader project exposure across a variety of client projects, we can make that happen too.

Supported by your peers, you have exposure to a wide variety of Government, Military, Commercial, Oil and Gas and Industrial based project work.

You can expect as a co-op student/intern to gain valuable work experience and broad project exposure by:

  • Develop and interpret 3D models of equipment, foundations, piping systems, and structures for client vessels.
  • Create and interpret 2D drawings, including parts, assemblies, installations, and various diagrams.
  • Research vessel documentation, review engineering changes, and ensure documentation accuracy.
  • Work on Engineering Changes (ECs) related to ships, systems, and equipment modifications.
  • Manage and implement ECs, ensuring new or sustained capabilities.
  • Support projects from initial change to installation and acceptance on board vessels.
  • Conduct market research, option analysis, system requirement determination, calculations, impact assessments, and write specifications.
  • Develop technical studies, drawings, and specifications for government and commercial vessels.
  • Report writing and equipment selection.
  • Perform structural design and analysis.
  • Work on systems integration projects.
  • Collaborate with team members.
  • Conduct engineering analyses such as finite element analysis, weights, or stability.
  • Enrolment in Mechanical Engineering or Ocean Naval Engineering program at MUN.
  • Years of Experience Required: <2 years
  • Familiar with AutoCAD
  • Interest in Rhino or other 3D modeling software
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
