Job Description

PACCAR India is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join its dynamic Pune team, specializing in the design and development of various truck components, including conceptual sheet metal brackets, casting components, DEF routing, and exhaust systems.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at PACCAR, you will leverage your expertise in sheet metal design and CAD modeling to develop robust solutions, support prototype builds, and ensure optimal performance, durability, manufacturability, and compliance with engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the design and development of exhaust systems.
  • Develop robust sheet metal, exhaust piping, and casting designs with a strong understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, including GD&T, BOMs, and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Perform vehicle packaging, system integration, and interface management across subsystems.
  • Participate in concept and design reviews with lead and division engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, both locally and globally, to ensure design alignment and manufacturability.
  • The primary function for this position includes:
    • Execute CAD activities, including sheet metal, casting, piping, routing, advanced modeling, and assembly design.
    • Interpret design requirements, perform clearance checks, and ensure compliance with drawing standards, GD&T, and BOM accuracy.
    • Work with exhaust systems, DEF systems, and frame mounting components

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Production Engineering

Knowledge & Skills REQUIRED:

  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in the automotive industry, with truck domain experience considered an advantage.
  • Proficient in Creo Parametric and Windchill.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal, exhaust piping design, casting, and manufacturing processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of exhaust and DEF systems.
  • Ability to effectively design and manage large assemblies using both top-down and bottom-up approaches.
  • Excellent understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and engineering drawing standards.
  • Experience in tool clearance, reliability, and ergonomic evaluations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with both local and global engineering teams.
