Job Description

We are Allmand, a Generac Company.

For more than 85 years, we've worked alongside our customers to provide the most reliable and rugged light, heat, power and air products to the rental, construction, special event, mining and oil and gas markets - so our customers can keep your promise of a job well done.

With your success in mind, Allmand jobsite equipment is renowned for providing the lowest cost of ownership - delivering superior serviceability, ease of use, durable construction and industry-leading resale value.

The Mechanical Engineer II will play a key role in new product development and sustaining engineering for mobile light towers and indirect-fired heater products. This position will contribute significantly to complex engineering projects, including new product designs, product redesigns, cost-reduction initiatives, engineering changes, and product improvements.

This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong 3D CAD proficiency and the ability to manage major projects from concept through design release. The Mechanical Engineer II will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, manufacturing engineering, materials, purchasing, production, and warehouse teams to develop accurate, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions.

The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter who can work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and take ownership of project quality and delivery. Experience with indirect-fired heaters, furnace systems, diesel-powered equipment, power systems, trailers, sheet-metal enclosures, or mobile equipment is highly valued.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical OR Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience
  • Experience creating and modifying complex 3D models and complete 2D drawing sets in Solidworks or Creo Parametric
  • Demonstrated proficiency with 3D CAD software
  • Experience leading or serving as a major contributor to a complex mechanical engineering project
  • Experience developing mechanical designs from concept through release
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, manufacturing, materials, and purchasing functions
  • Ability to travel less than 10%

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SolidWorks, Creo, or comparable 3D CAD software
  • Experience designing indirect-fired heaters, furnaces, or other heating equipment
  • Experience with mobile light towers or similar industrial equipment
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, alternators, AC power systems, or power-generation equipment
  • Experience with trailer design, sheet-metal enclosures, or mobile equipment
  • Experience supporting new product development and sustaining engineering
  • Experience with cost-reduction initiatives and Engineering Change Orders
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or designers
  • Experience working directly with production and manufacturing teams

Essential Duties

  • Lead or significantly contribute to new product development, product redesigns, and major engineering improvements for mobile light towers, indirect-fired heaters, and related equipment.
  • Develop and release 3D models, assemblies, drawings, and engineering documentation from concept through production implementation.
  • Manage assigned engineering projects, coordinating requirements, deliverables, and timelines while balancing performance, quality, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
  • Develop and implement Engineering Change Orders, investigate product issues, and deliver timely corrective solutions to support sustaining engineering and product reliability.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction and continuous improvement opportunities in collaboration with purchasing, materials, manufacturing engineering, and operations.
  • Partner with engineering, production, assembly, and warehouse teams to improve product quality, design accuracy, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to designers and less-experienced engineers while promoting accountability and ownership.
  • Adapt to changing priorities, maintain current knowledge of relevant engineering practices and technologies, and perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Location

This position is preferably based at the Allmand facility in Holdrege, Nebraska. Candidates based near an approved engineering location in Wisconsin or Colorado may also be considered depending on business needs. Relocation may be available.

The role requires regular collaboration with production and operations teams and may include time spent on the manufacturing floor. Travel is expected to be less than 10%.

Opportunity

This role offers the opportunity to join a growing engineering organization as light tower and heater engineering responsibilities expand. The Mechanical Engineer III will work on a broad range of assignments, contributing to new products, cost reductions, product improvements, and the continued development of the engineering function.

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Final compensation will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, qualifications, and geographic location.

“We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.”
