Job Description
We are partnering with an established U.S. manufacturer seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer II or III to support the development of sophisticated industrial equipment and automated manufacturing systems.
This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys taking ownership of engineering projects, solving challenging design problems, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to bring complex equipment from concept through production and installation.
The position offers exposure to technically demanding projects, opportunities for professional growth, and the ability to contribute directly to the development of specialized manufacturing solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical assemblies, equipment, fixtures, tooling, and integrated manufacturing systems.
- Create and maintain detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-up evaluations, and mechanical design analyses to ensure equipment reliability and performance.
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and supply chain teams throughout the engineering and equipment development process.
- Provide technical support during equipment assembly, testing, troubleshooting, installation, and commissioning.
- Coordinate with suppliers and technical partners to resolve design challenges and ensure component specifications are met.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials, technical reports, and equipment manuals.
- Manage design revisions and engineering changes through established documentation and approval processes.
- Support project schedules, engineering deliverables, technical requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in design reviews, identify potential technical risks, and recommend practical engineering solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Mechanical Engineer II
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional mechanical design and engineering experience.
Mechanical Engineer III
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional mechanical design and engineering experience.
- Ability to independently manage complex technical assignments and provide guidance to other engineers.
Technical Qualifications
- Strong experience with SolidWorks for mechanical modeling, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or comparable CAD document management systems.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis.
- Experience applying FEA techniques to evaluate mechanical designs.
- Understanding of engineering change processes, including ECRs, ECOs, and ECNs.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment design, and mechanical assembly methods.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management practices.
- Ability to develop accurate technical documentation and communicate effectively across engineering disciplines.
- Experience working with ERP or comparable engineering and manufacturing information systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical design of custom industrial machinery, automated equipment, or engineered-to-order manufacturing systems.
- Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies, fixtures, tooling, or production equipment.
- Background supporting defense manufacturing or other highly regulated industrial environments.
- Exposure to robotics, high-speed automation, or specialized manufacturing processes.
- Experience supporting equipment from initial design through fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation.
- Strong understanding of design for manufacturability, equipment reliability, and mechanical integration.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The successful candidate is a technically capable mechanical engineer who combines strong design fundamentals with practical, hands-on problem-solving skills.
We are particularly interested in individuals who enjoy working on custom equipment rather than repetitive product designs, take ownership of their engineering deliverables, and collaborate effectively with electrical, controls, and manufacturing professionals.
Strong attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, and a willingness to contribute to continuous improvement are essential.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Work on challenging, custom-engineered equipment and manufacturing projects.
- Collaborate with experienced engineering and technical professionals.
- Contribute to projects supporting critical U.S. industrial and defense applications.
- Gain exposure to the full equipment development lifecycle.
- Opportunity for continued technical and professional advancement.
- Competitive compensation and comprehensive employee benefits.
