Location: Blaydon-On-Tyne with regular UK travel

Employment type:  Full time, Permanent

Working Hours:  Monday to Friday, 40 hours pw

About the Role

The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for carrying out mechanical installation, maintenance, refurbishment, repair and commissioning support activities on power transformers and associated high-voltage equipment within electrical substations, renewable energy projects and industrial environments.

Working as part of a multi-disciplined team, the role involves the assembly, dismantling, inspection and maintenance of power transformers and associated mechanical equipment. The successful candidate will work safely under the direction of Site Supervisors and other competent personnel, ensuring all work is completed to the required safety, quality and technical standards.

The role will involve UK-wide travel and working away from home as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, dismantle, assemble and refurbish power transformers and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Carry out mechanical installation, maintenance, inspection and fault-finding activities on transformers and associated plant.
  • Install, remove and replace transformer components including radiators, conservators, pipework, valves, cooling equipment, gaskets and seals.
  • Assist with transformer repairs, refurbishment, life-extension projects and equipment replacements.
  • Support transformer installation, dismantling, reassembly, oil filling and associated preparation activities.
  • Assist with testing and commissioning activities within individual competence levels.
  • Use mechanical hand tools, power tools and specialist equipment safely and correctly.
  • Assist with rigging, lifting operations and the installation of transformer ancillary equipment where trained and authorised.
  • Complete relevant documentation and maintain high standards of workmanship, safety and compliance.
  • Work collaboratively within multi-skilled teams, supporting colleagues and travelling across the UK as required.

About you….

  • Time-served Mechanical Fitter with proven industrial experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Previous substation and transformer experience is desirable.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify and resolve faults.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Willingness to learn, develop and work within a multi-skilled team environment.
