The J.D. Irving, Limited Woodlands Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Sussex Garage. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or early-career professional who is passionate about operational excellence, continuous improvement, and project management.

Working closely with the Garage Manager and operational teams, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities to improve fleet, facilities, and maintenance operations. Through data analysis, process improvement, and project leadership, you will contribute to initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, asset reliability, and service delivery.

This position offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and broad exposure to operational and business improvement initiatives across one of Atlantic Canada's largest natural resource organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of operational improvement initiatives across fleet, facilities, and maintenance operations.
  • Partner with Garage teams to evaluate existing processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement practical solutions that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Lead and coordinate projects from concept through implementation, ensuring alignment of objectives, timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Analyze operational data, asset performance metrics, and business requirements to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the planning, design, and optimization of facilities, equipment, and operational resources to maximize performance, reliability, and value.
  • Support inventory and asset management programs, including the evaluation, allocation, and utilization of organizational resources.
  • Develop and implement initiatives that strengthen maintenance planning, service delivery, and customer satisfaction.
  • Create, maintain, and enhance operational documentation, standards, procedures, and performance metrics to support the growth and effectiveness of Garage operations.
  • Monitor project and program outcomes, measure results against objectives, and recommend ongoing improvements to processes and operations.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, collaboration, and proactive problem-solving throughout operational teams.
  • Work closely with the Garage Manager to develop technical, operational, leadership, and project management competencies while contributing to strategic departmental goals and priorities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • Less than two years of related engineering or operational experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret operational data and identify trends.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuous improvement, operational excellence, asset management, or project management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with operations teams and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, Lean principles, process improvement methodologies, or project management practices is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel occasionally within Woodlands operations.(if applicable)
