Job Description

Calspan is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems within our world-class Wind Tunnel operations. This position plays a key role in planning and guiding engineering projects while delivering solutions that support cutting-edge aerospace research and testing.

Responsibilities

  • Support execution of testing operations in accurate and efficient manner. Apply knowledge of engineering techniques to accurately complete and assign tasks within budget and scheduling restraints.
  • Analyze and test the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanical equipment systems.
  • Develop new applications and test procedures.
  • Maintain engineering data and/or drawings, which includes layouts, three-dimensional models, and structural analyses.
  • Develop technical documentation including engineering plans, requirements definition, test procedures, installation design plans and related technical reports.
  • Provide technical guidance to personnel involved in developing design approaches and executing test procedures. Review and correct drawings to ensure proper engineering techniques and accuracy.

Qualifications

Preferred Education / Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years in Engineering or related discipline or;
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
  • Due to the security requirements for this position, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Strong analytical skills in the area of machine design and stress analysis
  • Proficient with CAD software; Autodesk Inventor or equivalent
  • Perform basic design, layout, test and evaluation of mechanical and electromechanical systems and components
  • Read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage abstract and concrete variables
