Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will:

  • Lead the design the structural and mechanical components and assemblies of critical, cutting-edge spaceflight systems, establishing technical approaches, evaluating trade studies, and ensuring system-level integration and performance
  • Delivery of high-quality models, documentation, and drawings that meet customer requirements and engineering standards
  • Review and approve models and drawings of other engineers
  • Perform preliminary analysis (FEA and hand calculations) to demonstrate compliance with spaceflight design standards
  • Facilitate the manufacturing, assembly, and delivery of spaceflight hardware
  • Serve as a primary technical interface with customer counterparts, requirement owners, suppliers, and integrated product teams to define requirements, resolve technical issues, and promote mission success.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus ten (10) years of related engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design efforts through the full product lifecycle
  • Expertise in complex assemblies, hardware development, and production support.
  • Applied experience using CAD modeling software (Creo, NX, SolidWorks, etc.)
  • Applied experience creating engineering drawings to ASME Y14.5 (GD&T)
  • Project management or other leadership experience
  • Experience working on cross-discipline engineering teams
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills

Preferences:

  • Working experience with spaceflight
  • Applied experience using FEA modeling software (Ansys, Simcenter, etc…)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with requirement development, decomposition, documentation, and review
  • Experience developing technical documentation
  • Working experience with Windchill
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management software
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  • Applicant selected may be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally, an office environment but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
