About the Role:
Based primarily at our Wairakei office, you’ll also spend time on client sites locally and internationally. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering mechanical engineering and design services across geothermal, hydropower and general mechanical projects.
You will be responsible for:
• Providing mechanical design for steam‑field, geothermal and hydropower systems
• Delivering engineering solutions including plant modifications, upgrades and maintenance design
• Supporting site engineering activities: commissioning, quality documentation and technical guidance
• Preparing specifications including process design basis, functional descriptions, instrumentation requirements and mechanical equipment specifications
• Managing small to medium design and design/build projects, including budgeting, scheduling, procurement and cost tracking
• Supporting tendering and estimating activities
• Building strong client relationships and responding promptly to client needs
• Mentoring and supporting junior engineers and graduates
• Ensuring compliance with Safety in Design, quality systems, and MB Century’s health, safety and environmental standards
This role offers a unique blend of office‑based design, hands‑on site involvement, and project management — ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to grow their engineering capability across multiple energy sectors.
About You:
You’ll bring at least five years’ experience in the energy sector, ideally with exposure to geothermal, hydropower or process engineering environments. You’ll be confident in piping design principles and mechanical systems, and comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams.
You will also bring:
• A Mechanical Engineering degree (Washington Accord preferred)
• Eligibility or progress toward CPEng or IMechE
• Experience in project leadership and coordinating work to meet cost and schedule targets
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective client relationships
• A willingness to travel and work internationally when required
• Proficiency with piping design/drafting software
