Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer works across business segments to align mechanical design tools, approaches, and implementations for the Vertiv organization. The Lead Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planning, organizing, and scheduling the activities of a team of approximately 10 Mechanical Engineers in Pune, India who provide support for multiple global Lines of Business. The Lead Mechanical Engineer has matrix management responsibility for the team and its day-to-day operation. The local team in Pune reports to the Lead Mechanical Engineer on a dotted-line basis.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for working with the various LOB engineering teams as an advocate for common tools and practices, while also actively seeking opportunities for the Mechanical Engineering Center Of Excellence team to provide value through mechanical design work, tools conversion, and process alignment.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the completion of conversions of AC Power and Thermal mechanical designs for legacy products from the SolidEdge tool to the Creo tool. Longer-term, the Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for converting the team into a full-functional mechanical design team, providing mechanical design services across a variety of business segments.

  1. 30% - Coordination and planning of the day-to-day activities of the Pune Mechanical COE team.
  2. 30% - Project identification, planning, and tracking.
  3. 20% - Interaction with LOB leaders and subject matter experts.
  4. 10% - Serving as a subject matter expert on Mechanical CAD tools and processes for both the Pune team and the business as a whole.
  5. 10% - Reporting on the status of the team’s projects, including tracking appropriate KPIs and SLAs

BS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent required.

MS in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or an MBA, preferred.

Demonstrated expertise in mechanical design for critical infrastructure systems.

Demonstrated success in leading teams to accomplish project implementations on time, on budget, and with high quality.

4+ years of design experience with a modern MCAD package required.

4+ years of design experience with CREO preferred.

Experience leading distributed teams.

Experience leading teams based in either India or China, preferred.

Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as required (estimated 10% of time outside the Columbus, OH area)

Solid communications skills, with fluency in both written and spoken English.
