Mechanical Engineer

about the position
Mechanical Engineer is part of the Discipline Engineering team within Chevron’s ENGINE and is responsible for providing expertise in pressure vessels and piping mechanical design, repair, alteration, code interpretation, and post-construction repair across Chevron assets.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, and work hours are aligned to business needs. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM, Monday to Friday. These may evolve based on operational or business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide enterprise-wide support of in-service pressure vessels and piping, support new construction projects, and maintain Chevron’s technical standards.
• Assist with concept development, work scoping, troubleshooting, failure analysis, and repairs.
• Perform mechanical design analysis, using finite element analysis (FEA), of fixed equipment components in pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and piping. Determine if stresses applied to components are within allowable limits, and confirm that maximum strain and deflections are also within allowable limits.
• Apply fracture mechanics, fatigue, buckling, creep, and mechanical design principles to evaluate whether components in mechanical equipment are within allowable stress ranges.
• Perform minimum thickness calculations (Tmin) on piping and pressure vessels per API 570, API 574, and API 579.
• Perform Fitness-For-Service assessments of piping and pressure vessels per API 579, with knowledge and practical application of API 579.
• Select post-construction repair options for mechanical equipment (sleeves, patches, weld repairs, etc.), and validate that the design meets ASME code requirements. Demonstrate knowledge and practical application of ASME PCC-2.
• Review supplier pressure vessel design packages.
