The Role

WSP Australia is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong materials handling experience to join our established Mining team in Newcastle. This role will support the delivery of a diverse portfolio of mining and resources projects across design, studies, and execution phases.

You’ll work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, high‑quality engineering solutions across bulk materials handling systems, while building long‑term capability within WSP’s growing mining business in NSW.

  • Deliver mechanical design and engineering support for materials handling systems across mining projects

  • Contribute to studies, concept designs, detailed design, and technical documentation

  • Design and review bulk materials handling equipment including conveyors, transfer stations, crushers, feeders, chutes, and stockyard systems

  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and structural disciplines to deliver integrated design outcomes

  • Prepare calculations, specifications, data sheets, and drawings in line with project and WSP standards

  • Support project delivery by contributing to scope definition, schedules, and technical risk management

  • Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and technical workshops

About You

  • Degree qualified Mechanical Engineer

  • Proven experience in bulk materials handling within mining or heavy industry

  • Experience with conveyor systems and associated materials handling equipment

  • Background in engineering consultancy or project‑based delivery preferred

  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards and design compliance

  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary project teams

  • Clear communication skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders
