Lam Research India is seeking a highly motivated and technically strong Materials Engineer to support advanced materials compatibility evaluation, failure analysis, and materials development activities for semiconductor equipment and related technologies. The candidate will work on metals, polymers, composites, and surface-engineered materials to evaluate material behavior, reliability, degradation mechanisms, and process compatibility. This role requires strong hands-on expertise in electrochemical analysis, knowledge & handling of various organic and inorganic chemistries, and material characterization techniques. The ideal candidate should possess a strong problem-solving mindset, excellent analytical capability, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional global engineering teams in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform materials characterization and failure analysis on metals, polymers, and composite materials
  • Demonstrate experience with thermoplastic and thermoset plastic materials, including their fabrication processes, characterization, and analytical methods
  • Perform electrochemical characterization using techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry, and related electrochemical test methods
  • Support materials evaluation activities involving various organic and inorganic chemistries, including material preparation, chemical compatibility assessment, process execution, and laboratory safety practices
  • Broad working knowledge of a variety of micro and nano-mechanical techniques including sample preparation experience is required
  • Investigate material degradation, defects, and root causes, and recommend corrective actions or engineering solutions
  • Good understanding of mechanical behaviour of materials and structure property correlation
  • Creating comprehensive technical reports with crisp and concise data for presenting to cross-functional teams
  • Collaborate closely with process, mechanical, electrical, and product engineering teams across global organizations
  • Support multiple high-priority projects in a fast-paced development environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Polymer Science or related discipline with 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Masters degree Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Polymer Science with 0 to 2 years experience.

Core Competencies:

  • Hands-on experience in handling and working with organic and inorganic chemistries, including material preparation, chemical compatibility assessment, process execution, and laboratory safety practice is required
  • Hands-on experience in electrochemical characterization techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and related electrochemical testing method is must
  • Knowledge of plating chemistries, electrochemical processes, and related material characteristics will be an added advantage
  • 1+ years of experience in materials characterization (ceramic, metal, polymer, composites) or failure analysis
  • Practical experience in microstructural and surface analysis techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Confocal Microscopy
  • Familiarity with techniques such as X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is an added advantage

Desirable Competencies

  • Experience in the Semiconductor Wafer Fab Equipment (WFE) domain
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and deliver effective technical presentations.

Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
