The role of the MEICA Engineer plays a vital part in ensuring asset reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance with industry standards, supporting both routine maintenance and capital projects.
The MEICA Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, diagnostics, and fault-finding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems across Jersey Water’s treatment works, pumping stations and distribution network.
This role requires a multi-skilled approach, balancing hands-on maintenance with technical problem-solving and system optimisation.
The MEICA Engineer will also contribute to the configuration and integration of control systems, ensuring seamless operation of automated processes and reducing downtime through proactive fault resolution.
Key Responsibilities
Instrumentation, Control & Automation (ICA) Systems
- Install, commission, and maintain process instrumentation, including flow meters, pressure sensors, level transmitters, and water quality monitors.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve PLC, VSD, and control system faults, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Work with automation systems to improve plant performance, including modifying PLC logic and control parameters where required.
- Support the integration of new equipment into existing control systems, ensuring seamless operation.
- Ensure instrument calibration and compliance with regulatory and operational requirements.
Electrical & Mechanical Engineering
- Carry out installation, maintenance, and fault diagnosis on LV electrical systems, motors, pumps, and associated control panels.
- Work with motor control centres (MCCs), distribution boards, and power systems, ensuring compliance with electrical safety regulations.
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical plant and process equipment, including pumps, valves, and chemical dosing systems.
- Support capital projects by contributing to the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical and electrical assets.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and in line with industry best practices.
Fault Diagnosis & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct root cause analysis on asset failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Identify and implement efficiency improvements, optimising equipment performance and reducing energy consumption.
- Work with the Operations and Maintenance teams to improve plant resilience and reduce reactive repairs.
- Develop and refine maintenance strategies, ensuring preventative maintenance is prioritised.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Multi-skilled engineer with expertise in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, control, and automation systems.
- Understanding of PLC, VSD, MCCs, process instrumentation and plant control systems.
- Demonstrable ability in fault-finding, diagnostics and commissioning of MEICA assets.
- Ability to work independently and proactively, ensuring plant reliability and operational efficiency.
- A problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset, focused on optimising performance and reducing downtime.
- Strong team player, able to communicate effectively and collaborate across departments.

- Pension – Membership of the defined contribution scheme. Jersey Water pays 5% up to 5 years’ service and then 10%, employees pay 5%. A matching scheme is available whereby Jersey Water matches additional voluntary contributions up to a maximum of 5%.
