Position Summary:

The Mechanical Draftsperson will create, revise, and maintain detailed engineering drawings and CAD models supporting the design and build of progressive stamping dies used in micro-miniature metal stamping applications. This role works closely with tool designers, engineers, and toolmakers to translate design concepts and customer specifications into accurate, manufacturable drawings.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

· Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of die components (punches, dies, strippers, stock guides, cam units, etc.) using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Mechanical.

· Create die layout drawings, strip layouts, and die process sheets from customer part prints.

· Draft detailed component drawings with correct GD&T, tolerances, and material callouts suited to micro-miniature tolerances (often within thousandths of an inch).

· Coordinate with machinists on ESPRIT CAM programming needs by ensuring drawings and models are ready.

· Revise and update existing die drawings based on engineering changes, tryout feedback, or customer revisions.

· Collaborate with toolmakers and die designers to ensure drawings translate accurately to machining and assembly.

· Maintain and distribute drawing packages, revisions, and documentation via Adobe Acrobat.

· Maintain accurate drawing revision control, BOMs, and documentation within the company's PLM/ERP system.

· Support die tryout and troubleshooting by revising drawings based on floor feedback.

· Interpret and work from customer-supplied part prints, models, and specifications.

· Ensure compliance with internal drafting standards and, where applicable, customer or industry standards (ASME Y14.5, etc)

Position Qualifications and Competency Statements:

Required Qualifications

· Associate's degree or technical certificate in Drafting, Tool Design, Mechanical Design, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).

· 2+ years of drafting experience in a tool & die, stamping, or precision metal fabrication environment.

· Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD Mechanical for 2D/3D die design and detailing.

· Familiarity with ESPRIT CAM software for programming/reviewing machined die components.

· Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat for managing, marking up, and distributing drawing packages and PDFs.

· Strong understanding of GD&T and precision tolerancing.

· Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical drawings and customer part prints.

· Familiarity with progressive die design principles (strip layout, station sequencing, punch/die clearances).

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience specifically with micro-miniature or high-precision stamping dies.

· Knowledge of sheet metal forming principles and stamping processes.

· Familiarity with die tryout processes and troubleshooting.

Skills and Abilities:

· Strong spatial reasoning and mechanical aptitude.

· Good communication skills for collaborating with engineers, toolmakers, and customers.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced shop environment.

Work Environment:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment that is adjacent to the shop work environment. The employee must be aware of potential hazards, including, but not limited to, working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating vehicles, exposure to electrical current, high temperatures, and chemicals. It's important to maintain a high level of alertness and caution while performing tasks in this work environment.
