This designer position will be responsible for creating all documentation required to build new products as well as updating and maintaining drawings as determined by the Department. Will also integrate and standardize the new products in the company systems. Candidate must be able to read and create drawings, understand Bills of Materials and be able to determine what views and information is necessary to communicate with Plant Engineering and Manufacturing.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Acquire necessary knowledge involved in the successful accomplishment of his/her duties.
  • Support project engineers with the selection of standard OEM components, creation of fabrication and assembly drawings based off accurate 3D models, maintain accurate product structures for new and existing products.
  • Prepare complete, accurate sets of drawings including BOMs, technical layouts, multiple views, detail drawings and assembly drawings, cross-sectional and subassembly drawings.
  • Create accurate 3D models, determine most appropriate views and prepare final drawings and supplementary information necessary to complete assignments.
  • Utilize mathematical formulas to compute weights, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, etc.
  • Interact with internal staff as well as vendors regarding technical issues pertaining to parts, design, usage, specifications, etc.
  • Learn ERP system to accurately take out part numbers and load BOMs for production.
  • Maintain an organized workflow so all required documentation is sent to other departments in an efficient manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: 2-3 year degree/certificate in Mechanical Drafting/Design or equivalent is preferred.

Experience: At least 3 years working with mechanical systems and equipment.

Software: Minimum of 3 years industry experience with Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD is required. Both software packages are used, and the candidate must have a good working knowledge of each. Experience working with Autodesk Vault is also preferred.

Assets:

  • Experience with ASME pressure vessel design and documentation (Section I and IV)
  • Experience with threaded and welded piping
  • Experience designing and documenting sheet metal parts
  • Knowledge of welding and pressure vessel code requirements

Preferred Skills:

  • Possess a sound working knowledge of mechanics.
  • Knowledge of machining processes, sheet metal fabrication, welding, materials, industrial piping and pressure vessels.
  • Ability to understand the objectives of projects and communicate effectively to complete tasks.
  • Ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a normal office and a development lab environment with running equipment.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Able to meet deadlines consistently and with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Imaginative and creative.
