Job Description

Your mission

As Mechanical Design Engineer – Propulsion Battery System (all genders) you will join VÆRIDION’s Technology division within the Mechanical Design & Integration team and support the development of the propulsion battery system for VÆRIDION’s CS-23 all-electric aircraft.
This role focuses primarily on the mechanical design and development of battery packs, including structural components, enclosure features, internal support structures, and integrated mechanical hardware. You will contribute to the design, detailing, and maturation of battery pack hardware from early development through flightworthy and production-ready designs.
Working closely with colleagues in the Mechanical Design & Integration team, you will collaborate with HV Electrical Systems, Airborne Electronics, Thermal Systems, Structures, Production, Certification, Safety, and Quality teams to deliver mechanically robust, thermally safe, certifiable, and manufacturable propulsion battery system hardware.
Your work will directly contribute to the propulsion battery system that underpins VÆRIDION’s mission to bring electric flight to regional aviation.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Develop mechanical designs for propulsion battery pack hardware, including enclosure components, structural elements, internal supports, retention features, mounting interfaces, sealing concepts, and service features.
  • Create andmaintain3D CAD models, detailed drawings, and configuration-controlled design data for battery pack components and assemblies.
  • Support the mechanical integration of electrical and electronic hardware within battery pack assemblies, including connector mounting features, harness support provisions, routing accommodations, and installation details.
  • Contribute to the development of thermal runaway mitigation hardware, venting paths, ducting concepts, and other mechanically integrated thermal safety features in collaboration with the Thermal Systems team.
  • Support materials and processes activities includingselectionof metals and composites, definition of joining methods, sealing technologies, and evaluation of manufacturing approaches.
  • Apply structural and thermomechanical analysis methods to support mechanical design development andvalidatedesign concepts.
  • Collaborate closely with HV Electrical Systems, Airborne Electronics, Thermal Systems, and Structures teams to ensure consistent interface definition and technically sound integration solutions.
  • Support design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly (DFMA) activities in collaboration with the Battery Production team.
  • Support prototype hardware builds, integration activities, and testing, and help resolve mechanical design issuesidentifiedduring manufacturing and validation.
  • Contribute to engineering documentation including design descriptions, drawings, and inputs to certification-related design documentation.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in aerospace, automotive, battery systems, or other high-performance engineering environments.
  • Strong experience in 3D CAD-based mechanical design, including development of complex parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Experience designing structural components, enclosures, or integrated mechanical hardware.
  • Working knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods and tools such as Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL, or similar.
  • Familiarity with materials and processes, including metals, composites, joining methods, sealing technologies, and manufacturing considerations.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly for complex engineered products.
  • Experience with battery systems or electric propulsion systems is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, technical curiosity, and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Fluent English language skills are essential; German language skills are beneficial.
