Job Description

Global Power Components is a privately held, growing manufacturer of UL steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures and modular metal enclosures for housing fully equipped electrical distribution and control equipment.
Global Power Components is a privately held, financially sound, growing manufacturer of UL heavy gauge steel fuel tanks, trailers, large generator enclosures, and modular metal enclosures for housing fully-equipped electrical distribution and control equipment. As a result of our continuing expansion and continued organization growth, we are looking for a motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team.

Primary Focus:
New Product Development & Product Redesign – Deliver robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective mechanical designs that support new product development and continuous improvement of existing products. Success is measured by design quality, execution reliability, cost impact, and effective system documentation.
Core Responsibilities:
  1. New Product Development
  • Lead mechanical design from concept through production release.
  • Develop complete and accurate 3D models, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Perform required engineering analyses and participate in structured design reviews.
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation.
  1. Existing Product Redesign & Continuous Improvement
  • Execute cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.
  • Improve reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability of existing products.
  • Process Engineering Change Notice (ECNs) in accordance with change control procedures.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  1. PDM (Product Data Management)
  • Maintain accurate CAD models, drawings, and revision history.
  • Ensure proper file structure, naming conventions, and version control.
  • Release documentation through formal workflows.
  • Maintain complete and accurate BOM structures.
  1. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
  • Ensure BOMs transferred to ERP are accurate and aligned with released drawings.
  • Support part number creation and configuration accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and Operations to resolve BOM discrepancies.
  • Ensure engineering changes are properly reflected in ERP before production implementation.
  1. Engineering Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure designs meet performance requirements and applicable standards.
  • Apply GD&T and engineering best practices consistently.
  • Maintain full compliance with internal design control procedures.
Additional Responsibilities & Accountability:
  1. Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFM/DFA)
  • Proactively design for efficient manufacturing, assembly, and serviceability.
  • Engage Manufacturing early to validate feasibility and reduce downstream issues.
  • Minimize custom components when standard solutions are viable.
  1. Risk Management
  • Identify technical risks early in the design cycle.
  • Conduct DFMEA or structured risk reviews where appropriate.
  • Propose mitigation plans before issues impact schedule or cost.
  1. Product Lifecycle Support
  • Support production ramp-up and pilot builds.
  • Provide technical assistance for field issues when required.
  • Maintain long-term product documentation integrity.
  1. Continuous Improvement & Initiative
  • Identify opportunities for design standardization and modularity.
  •  Improve internal engineering processes where inefficiencies are observed.
  • Stay current on relevant materials, manufacturing methods, and tools.
  1. Professional Conduct & Ownership
  • Take responsibility for design outcomes, both positive and negative.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally across functions.
  • Manage time and priorities without constant oversight.
