This team is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer for our Winston-Salem Seating Group. Candidate will conduct product development activities and studies, analyze tests, and produce sketches, parts, and designs, following all appropriate Mechanical Engineering design, safety, and qualification standards.

This role is onsite, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

What You Will Do:

  • You will participate in product development activities including engineering studies, feasibility studies, cost estimates, implementation of standard and non-standard specifications, drawing board layout and interpretation, and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • You will follow all appropriate design, safety, and qualification standards in development programs.
  • You will work toward commonality and optimization of product & components to reduce design errors and escapes.
  • You will develop data and make layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal.
  • You will develop and design detail parts and assemblies for complex programs with weight, machinability/manufacturability, and assembly/servicing in mind.
  • You will resolve design problems of simple-to-complex scope to ensure project completion.
  • You will analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and offers solutions for improvements.
  • You will apply lessons learned from project-to-project, to further improve product designs.
  • You will track and maintain program-specific weight & CG for parts and modules.
  • You will support Project Engineers in deliverables for Main Cabin Seating products.

What You Will Learn:

  • You will learn how to design lightweight, certifiable aircraft seat structures, mechanisms, and assemblies.
  • You will learn how to create and update 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs following aerospace design standards.
  • You will learn how to apply FAA/EASA requirements and support analysis, testing, and certification activities.
  • You will learn how to resolve design issues through iterative modeling, data review, and prototype evaluations.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Must be a U.S. Person - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Mechanical design experience using 3D CAD is required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Mechanical Engineering major/degree.
  • Previous experience using Unigraphics NX and Team Center preferred
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply mechanical drawings, engineering schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical design principles, including tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic CAD model interpretation.
  • Familiarity with various mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal, plastic thermoforming, and injection molding practices.
  • Familiarity of aircraft seating and certification requirements.
  • Familiarity of aerospace materials.
  • Demonstrates good communication.
  • Works well in a team and learns quickly.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
